Save the Roadrunner! Keep the funding!

As you are well aware, the University of Texas at San Antonio is facing the problem of increasing tuition. For the Spring 2004 semester, it is inevitable. Most students will see an increase of at least $144. The reason? Combine reduced state funding with an aggressive recruitment policy, and the result is an underfunded, overcrowded university.

Recently, the Governor of Texas vetoed a bill that stripped the university of $4,000,000. UTSA now receives more funding from students' tuition and fees than it does from the State of Texas.

Please take a moment to show your support for the university, its faculty and students, and the San Antonio community. Address your concerns to your state senators and representatives. Our governing body must understand that education cuts ultimately hurt the future of the State of Texas, and specifically, the lower-income City of San Antonio.

This petition will be forwarded to state senators and representatives for all ZIP codes represented by its supporters. With your help, it will be received via postal mail. At the minimum, e-mail will be utilized for this document's delivery.

To allow for a generous response, this petition will be forwarded on or around May 1, 2004, unless otherwise notified. Any changes to this date will be updated on this petition.
