LINDA GOODWIN | Field Hockey has played a major role in my children's lives. It is just as important as any other sport yet it often does not get the recognition it deserves because it is predominantly a women's sport. I support keeping the field hockey team at the University of Rhode Island,
Sarah Strain | I am the parent of a former field hockey player at UMBC. We had our program cancelled too. It was devastating for our girls. We tried everything to get the decision reversed. We went to the media, wrote letters to large companies in the area, appealed at the legislative level, called the USFHA etc... Unfortunately it was a done deal. Supposedly it was due to budget constraints; however the following year UMBC began construction on a 5 million dollar locker room facility. The way our situation was handled was ridiculous. Our coach was new we had five freshman recruits, new uniforms, coach trip to Festival etc.. and then they cut the program??? I pray you are able to have this decision reversed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the team, families and coaches.

Jerry Kiger | My daughters play on another college's field hockey team. Please reconsider the decision to drop URI Field Hockey, and swim, tennis and gymnastics teams. URI cannot be a first class university if it does not offer students the many leadership opportunities associated with college student athletics.

Kate Condon | As a member of the URI field hockey team, i am overwhelmed with the amount support that we have received from everyone who has signed this petition. My team mates & I appreciate it. It's a terrible sitution to be in, it's good to know we have the support of our friends, family, and players. Thanks :-)

George Guiley | Save the field hockey team!!! Don't eliminate other teams either. Just use your heads to determine how to create more revenue within the athlet6ic department. You have to run the athletic department as a business and teach your coaches how to generate more revenues. Push harder for alumni support; reduce scholarships in football and basketball and divide the revune savings into the sports you're planning on cutting.

Teri Boissoneau | URI Div I Field Hockey--not just a sport; a dream for many young girls, a chance to experience college not just academically but athletically, to compete successfully, to bond with many, to be a positive influence in their lives and the lives of their family and friends, to express a passion about a sport that teaches so many life lessons, a chance to learn and grow and become strong, independent leaders of tomorrow--DON"T LET THE DREAM END FOR THESE GIFTED & TALENTED YOUNG WOMEN OF THE URI FIELD HOCKEY TEAM! GO RHODIES! MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!
Jen Cairone | This is completely outregeous. These girls have been playing field hockey since they were 10 years old! Give them their team back, its only right.
Rick Condon | Athletics, along with academics, builds America's leaders. I am unaware of any effort by the URI administration at any fundraising efforts that may have been taken prior to this announcement. If any was made it was not very well publicized by the Administration. Additionally the disservice done to these student/athletes in the timing of this announcement is reprehensible. Not only have they lost their program but the have also lost the window of opportunity to arrange transfers to other universities if that is their desire.

Cheryl M. Poore | Field hockey is such a unique and challenging sport. The benefits of playing are substantial. Successful high school programs benefit greatly from having local colleges in which their players can continue to play.

Jenna | It's a shame to take away a program that means so much to so many girls. Why take away a sport in which we are trying to make grow, just because the state can't manage their money properly. This is rediculous

Richard Ralston | Sports, in general, has proven to successfully develop the individual in areas that serve to build character for their future, both personally and in the business world. Through sports, the individual learns to cope with success as well as failure, develops the competitiveness needed in virtually all business areas and demonstrates the team attitude and effort necessary for success. Hopefully, this decision will be reversed and field hockey will continue at URI.
Marilyn Pasqualichio | We have many talented athletes from the Wyoming Valley who have benefited from your college as well as the field hockey program and URI has benefited by having them as great student-athletes. By taking this away you are cutting down the opportunities for our future!
