| 603 | john reiss | Not sure that supporting AAmerican field hockey from oustside the US will be of value. However, I will support your petition in the hope that the authorities reverse such a short-sighted and unfair decision. |

| 607 | Derek Aspinall | Please save this program. It is vital for the future of field hockey that all related programs continue to exist. The USAFH has taken massive strides in the sports over recent years which has been mirrowed but the successes of the women's national team both on an off the field. Support women's field hockey! |

| 616 | Colleen Duffy-Brace | I played for UMASS from 1991-1994 and losing an A-10 field hockey team would be awful for the conference, not to mention opportunities for young women to experience being a part of a sport at the collegiate level. Women's teams should not be cut under any circumstances. |

| 621 | Erik Enters | As a guidance counselor, high school field hockey coach and former member of the US Indoor Team, I am telling you it would be a huge loss for URI to drop the program. I would have to be honest with my female students that are interested in attending URI that the university is not supportive of female athletes. Bad publicity!! |

| 626 | Linda MacDonald | As one of 3 colleges with hockey in CA, I know what it is to fear losing your program. You fight hard and find a way to keep it going. I am from New England and frankly can't believe that a school in the middle of tons of hockey can't find a way to keep it! Good Luck. |

There was a threat a few years ago that almost caused URI field hockey to be cut, but URI was able to pull together to keep things going. I don't see why it can't be done again. Save the field hockey program! |

| 632 | Sharon Sarsen | I am totally disapointed that a program such as the University of Rhode Island has cut the Field Hockey Program. This program of female athletes has represented URI with dignity and respect. It is not in the best interests of the student body population and it is unfair to these exceptional student athletes. To drop this program in the midst of their spring season was a slap in the face. I will never respect the URI athletic department, NOR will I ever recomment this University to any student athlete again. |

Perhaps this reduction was the removal of a headache that should have been cured by the administration 4 long years ago. If the sickness of the head coach had been addressed perhaps the coach would still be here today running a successful program. But No Just Ignore it, it will fix itself. IT DIDN'T. Two years later the team pretty much ran itself thanks to some dedicated athletes. Was it that the A-10 wants all turf in two years that was the downfall? Was it that the program just had two many headaches andcutting it would rid those aches ? Because if you really wanted to save MONEY, wouldn't football make more sense. Losing season after losing season, 1 head coach, 11 asst. coaches and roughly 70 players. I would not want to see football dropped either. Cost cutting VS politics. Politics wins again |

| 650 | Jane Koeniges | This should never be allowed to happen. These athletes and coaches should not be treated this way. Shame on the university for giving into the sate and shame on the state for being irresponsible with its money. I hope these athletes get out and go to a real university. The university doesn't deserve to have these fine young women. On a side note...why would you hire a coach just to cut the program a few months later? What not discontinue it when you didn't have a coach instead of wrecking two peoples lives? Was this some kind of power trip? |
