Jean Lipski | I am a high school coach in PA. Three of my former players are on URI's hockey team. One is my daughter. They are passionate about their sport, as are all of the athletes affected by this admin's decision. I am furious that sports are being cut. We need to encourage healthy choices, competition, teamwork, dedication, fitness. Instead, adults choose to act with total disregard to ethics and humanitarianism, and base decisions on numbers. Reinstate these programs. Go to your community and alumni for help. Us the power you have been given for benefit, not detriment.
Colleen Mahon | I have a daughter who plays D-I field hockey. I know her love of the game. I also know several of the players on URI's team. They, too, share this passion. Let them play. Their hearts are broken. All they want to do is play the sport they have worked on for years. Reinstate the program. Our children deserve it.

Philip Lipski | Athletics are an integral piece of every athlete's collegiate experience. Denying ANYONE a chance to participate in a sport is a travesty! Poor business management and/or a lack of creative fundraising are a poor excuse to cut programs at URI. If state funding is the reason for cutting programs, then an immediate petition to government leaders should begin. I'm sure the amount of URI alumni can put tremendous pressure on state leaders to devise a way to save URI's athletic programs. With the cost of college tuition rising astronomically, programs should be ADDED, not taken away! URI is a great university, but future athletes will think twice before attending - fearing a cut in their program(s). Let's not stand still. Pass the word and get involved. It's never too late.

Susan Mitchell | It would be a shame for the school to drop their hockey program. My daughter was looking at applying to URI but that may change if there is no field hockey
Elise Boissoneau | I have been playing field hockey since I was 10 yrs old. It was always my dream to play division one field hockey in college and I chose to play at URI. As a player on the team what has happened is absolutely devastating, I don't know how anyone could do this. Whoever started this petition thank you so much, it truely means alot to see how much people care. This team was like my family and this decision has changed my whole life.

Dave Joncas | Whatever their chosen sport, these kids spend many hours, blood, sweat and tears. They all desereve the opportunity to participate. College athletics should be all about the kids, not about trying to sell tickets and run quasi professional sports teams. These days too much emphasis is placed on the big name sports, to the detriment of other programs. A field hockey player is no more or less important than a footbal or basketball player. They all deserve the same oppotunities. LET THEM PLAY!

Anonymous | Please keep field hockey alive for girls! My daughter has enjoyed playing field hockey during the past two years of high school. This team keeps her in shape and busy with a variety of friends. To deny this "special" sport to students is very sad.
Jim Noto | Athletics is as important to the growth of our children, it improves there character, it teaches them how to excel as a team at the same time to grow as an individual.

Brittany Chadbourne | As a division 1 athlete myself, I know the importance of having a field hockey team for young women, and its positive impact not only as an athlete. It is an important cog in the wheel as we develop the sport for our country as a whole. Don't forget Title IX.
