205 AnonymousI feel that ROTC is just an extension of what is very wrong with our nation. I will not support such a corrupt organization.

211 Andrew Petit de MangeAs a proud conscientious objector and soon to be UMBC graduate I strongly urge the administration to oppose the creation of an ROTC program at UMBC. This university strives to foster an environment of individuality, creativity, and peace, all of which are opposed by the military. I made the mistake more than seven years ago to join the Maryland Army National Guard. It took nearly 6 years for me to muster the courage to stand up for myself and declare myself a conscientious objector and request discharge from the army. Last spring was likely the most trying time of my life thus far and to see UMBC create an ROTC program just following my graduation would not only be disappointing but a disgrace. I hope the administration takes all opposition to ROTC very seriously and considers the ethical quandry not just the military dollars that will likely flow into the school.

232 Mary LoganJust as your predecessor 40 years ago was surprised by campus reaction to a proposal to establish ROTC on campus, you are surprised. This is a campaign by corporate America to enlist the most vulnerable of our young people to fight in wars to support a system that supports the most egregious exploitation of our country's most vulnerable people, and that poisons the name of our country throughout the world.

241 Dora KorewaFor various reasons, including the problems with exclusion based on homosexuality and simply an overall distaste with the far reaching power of the military, I oppose the ROTC coming officially to UMBC.

243 AnonymousMy cousin is in the army, I wish he wasn't, but he chose to defend his country so that he could pay for college. He couldn't find money elsewhere so really he saw this as risking his life to learn. I think this whole war is wrong and that having the ROTC influence on campus is bluntly seeding the military mindset into those priviledged enough to have an opportunity to learn undisturbed by the conflict in the middle east.
244 Robin CageROTC and the military have no place at a liberal arts institution. They also descriminate against LBGT individuals and have a history of discrimination against women. This goes against UMBC's mission of diversity.

247 Karen KraftIf all of this didn't pretty much guarantee MORE RECRUITERS on campus it might not be so bad, but we know they'll be here even worse than now lying to our kids!
