As a student at the University of Massachusetts, I support the following motions that will presented to the UMass Board of Trustees on February 8-15th, 2006:
- A freeze on mandatory student fees: In order to ensure the University is more accessible and in order to begin to rollback the University's 100% increase in student fees from 2001-2005; I hereby support a freeze on mandatory student fees at the University of Massachusetts.
- A commitment to racial and socio-economic diversity: In order to ensure that the University fulfills its mission as an accessible public university and in order to ensure that the university better reflects the population of Massachusetts, I hereby support a commitment to the increasing the diversity of University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Public higher education should be a right and not a privilege, and I recognize these motions as first steps toward a system that is free, open, and accessible to all. |
