1057 Angelia ChappelearPlease note, that those subjected to sexual harrassment are often the victims of other forms of discrimination, harrassment and unfair policies "behind closed doors" as well. With no "checks & balances" on those in authoritive roles, these types of illegal practices are going to continue. Due to the fear of retailation (professionally, academically, personally, etc. many cannot and will come forward with the truth). Thank you for trying to help us all!

1062 Timothy CleavelandI agree with everything in this petition, including the statement that "there should be no ambiguity" as to what constitutes sexual harassment. However, I'm afraid that there is, unfortunately, substantial ambiguity, which should be eliminated by the compostion of a new formal policy statement. To this end, I suggest eliminating the word 'unwelcomed' in the initial statement, and eliminating the conditions in which sexual advances or sexual statements become harassment. The effect of these changes would be that sexual advances or comments would be harassment whether or not they were 'welcomed' and whether or not they implicitly or explicitly would affect the target's employment or academic status. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, Tim Cleaveland

1070 Adrienne HillsI am an English major, and I was shocked to hear from my first meeting with my mentor that there were not one but two members of the English department faculty that were accused or involved in sexual harassment incidents. My mentor told me that I should specifically avoid these instructors, that she was morally obligated to steer young women away from these men's classes. I was appalled that these men were even allowed to continue teaching-- I suspect tenure protects them. This university needs to be more outspoken and serious about enforcing the sexual harassment policy. College-aged women endure enough leering and comments as it is; the university owes it to its paying students to defend us while we are getting our education!

1082 AnonymousI am absolutely horrified to see that The University of Georgia would tolerate such inappropriate actions by a man who is so smug in his responses. It am embarassed to call UGA my Alma Mater when it is tarnished by the faculty overlooking such intolerable actions. They should have let this man go the first time. UGA should read up on current policies in regards to sexual harassment and the legal actions that can be taken against the institution as a result of handling these matters so carelessly.

1087 AnonymousPlease acknowledge that harrassment and discrimination come in many forms, not all of them sexual. There is tremendous gender inequity in salaries here despite UGA losing or settling several federal lawsuits on these issues

1092 AnonymousThe idea that UGA is not taking any action again the any faculty for harrassment because they are tenured or because they have submitted their resignation date is ridiculous. Anyone committing harrassment of any kind should be punished and UGA should do it's best to prosecute the person or persons.
