Petition To Reject The Tentative UFT Contract

Whereas the tentative contract agreement between the UFT and the City of New York extends the school day and school calendar;

Whereas the extention of the school day will create an undue hardship on commuter teachers;

Whereas such commuter teachers face termination as they may be late on occasions where traffic is bad, and they cannot arrive earlier due to childcare arrangements;

Whereas this agreement will send teachers back on lunchroom duty and hallway patrol, causing school aides to lose their positions;

Whereas teachers will lose the right to grieve the placement of letters in their files;

Whereas teachers will no longer be able to receive a seniority transfer;

Whereas the agreement does not allow for teachers to use their professional judgement;

Be it resolved that we, the undersigned, reject the tentative contract proposal, and urge its defeat by the Delegate Assembly on October 11, 2005. We also demand that the proposed contract be killed.
