Why does Trumbull High School Need to be renovated “Like New”
• Trumbull High School was built in 1971 and has NEVER BEEN RENOVATED.
• NEASC, the organization that accredits public high schools, made several recommendations in its latest assessment of Trumbull High School, including the expansion and renovation projects currently under consideration.
• Educational technology in the classrooms and the media center is outdated. Technology was a major recommendation by NEASC and in most cases is BELOW the level experienced by students in our elementary and middle schools.
• The physical plant is in need of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) renovation, technology updating, expansion of storage space and a myriad of other improvements one would expect in a 36-year-old building.
• Music and fine arts facilities are non-existent or need major update and repair.
• The physical education facility is in need of major update. In addition, there are inadequate facilities for many teams and clubs to practice and compete. For example, the marching band practices in a converted garage, the track team practices in the hallways, and the Yearbook staff operates out of a storage area.
• The THS auditorium should be a vital asset and resource for the entire community. This 36-year-old facility is too small, poorly designed, and in need of repair and modernization.
• Trumbull is one of only two school districts of our neighboring communities that have NOT undertaken renovations of their high school.
• Each year the renovation is delayed will add $4 million to the overall project cost.
This long-term situation will affect ALL students in the Trumbull Public Schools for years to come. Your support is necessary to move this project forward. Please remember that if the Town Council does not expand the scope of the Building Committee the “like new” renovation of the high school will probably NOT move forward.
