The petition
As all of you are aware things are not getting done in this town. Mayor of Toronto was asked to give property owners a written statement about there hazardous buildings, there are two building on Main Street that need to be torn down. If there were to be an accident, the town and property owner would be at fault. Notices have been sent out but the property owners, He and she, will not respond. Council has notified the town lawyer but with mo response from him either. This has gone on for a couple months now.
The City Park was taken from this town with out even asking Toronto’s town’s people. Now our children are using a main highway (Y-32) to get to the nearest park which is down by the Wapsi River with no sidewalk. Are you willing to let your children walk on a main highway on the roads soft side (gravel shoulder) to get to the Park?
This town was sued to get a sewer put in because raw sewage was emptying into the Wapsi River, now that the sewage was put in, the people feel that they don’t need to pay there bill. People who pay for there garbage and sewer are paying for the ones that don’t pay. Are you willing to pay for someone else’s bill? This is not being addressed by the board.
Fire station was closed in 2005 because no one wanted to run it, but for some reason they still had there pancake breakfasts. The #1 Question is. Where is the money that they got from the pancake breakfast they had if the fire station was closed in 2005? Where did that money go? It couldn’t be to the fire station because there is no fire station. 2007 the Fire trucks were sold, where did that money go? All that money should of went to the Town of Toronto, but instead people who volunteered had there hand out. Act of fraudently appropriating money.
What is needed to be done? Fire station books need to be audited and find out where that money is or went to and hold all people liable for the missing money. Take care of all the town and not just part of it. The towns people need to discuss tax situations and how they are handled, and get with all the property owners and discuss the improvement s that the Town of Toronto desires. This is everybody’s town not just one or two people town. City Council and Mayor need to do what is considered necessary or discontinue the town of Toronto, Clinton County, Iowa.
