Tommy's Law

We, the undersigned, call upon the UK Government to do everything in its power to:

STOP THE SENSELESS MURDERS

STOP THE CULTURE OF CARRYING KNIVES

TommyBy undertaking the following actions:

  1. CLEARER SENTENCING
    The sentence delivered to offenders should be clear.
    Life should mean life; 10 years should mean a minimum of 10 years.
  2. LONGER SENTENCES FOR POSSESSION
    Knives can be just as lethal as guns but easier to get hold of.
    The minimum & maximum sentencing for possession of a knife should be the same as possession of a gun.
  3. POSSESSION PRIOR TO ATTACK = PREMEDITATION
    If the perpetrator of a serious or fatal wounding was in possession of the weapon prior to the attack (i.e. did not grab the weapon at the crime scene) this shows intent. Why carry a knife if you are not going to use it? People who carry knives onto the streets of Britain & use them should be guilty of premeditated attacks even if they did not know the victim of the crime. They should, therefore, suffer longer custodial sentences.
  4. NATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM IN SCHOOLS
    Too many young people walk the streets in possession of knives. We believe the government should introduce a nationwide schools program to send a clear message of the horrors of knife crime.
  5. ACTIVITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
    We call on the government to reverse the erosion of activities for young people in the UK. We ask them to bring back the youth clubs & events for young people. We need to occupy the minds of young people & give them a safe environment in which to flourish.

61 lisa / garystevenswe agree on all 5 statements and think that this should be a life sentence for taking somenones life, us as a couple and a family of 4 children left england because of the crime in violence amongst young people in the uk is rising, we moved our family 2 gran canaria because the crime rate is so low compared too the uk, it is un real, the spainsih government would not put up with this behaviour so why do the uk i blame the law and the government, 4 taking someones life should mean life, not 1 year 3 years LIFE. if they are prepared too do this they should pay the price, and my heart and love goes out too tommy jones family on what they are and having too go through at this moment in time and for the rest of there lifes, fathers, uncles, sons , brothers, nephews, grandsons and more lifes r being taken every day beacasue knifes r being carried around just like cigarettes, mobile phones and door keys, think about it lifes are being taken because the law is not strong enough in the uk 2 stop it, NOW ITS TIME TOO STOP!

69 AlanPointerRandom stop & search is the only way to reduce knife-carrying. 5 year sentance if caught in possession. No doubt the civil liberties crowd will object, but ordinary decent law abiding citizens have nothing to fear from stop & search.

89 AmandaCrookSo sad that this has happened its such a tragedy. I just hope that this works and changes the law on life crimes. I agree with this 120% and people that carry knifes should get mush longer sentences and if the take a life they should do life, and i mean life not a poxy 10 yrs.

When I was little I remember it was horrifing to hear that there was a strange man in a car stopping children and asking them if they wanted to see some small puppies because he wanted to harm the children. All the children in the village were kept in doors and wern't allowed to play on the streets untill the scare died down. Things have gone from bad to worse, children are killing children and they think it's cool to carry a knife, or worse they think they need it to protect themselves. What should be done? Should inocent children be locked up in doors and not even be allowed to go to school? NO! the people who carry, intent to use or use knives and deadly weapons should be locked up!!! It's sad but I don't ever want to have a child because I don't intend to bring a child into a world with so much heartache through crime, when there is enough heartache through natural disasters. What is the world coming to? When will something be done? It's too late for Tommy, lets do something for his child and for yours!
