AnonymousAnonymousMMC: a disgrace. A financially driven, underhand way of attempting to de-professionalise doctors. No consultation with us.. The people it affects. It's September, and they still won't tell us anything. Totally un-democratic. Why would any bright, able, driven, focused young person ever choose medicine as a career now? A total disappointment. A complete waste of time, dedication, huge amounts of money... To be faced with this. It is scandalous.
KarenMacsweenThe new system of appointment is not based on merit and does not allow the supervising consultants to select their staff - would Tony Blair like to appoint his cabinet using this system?
MichaelMacDonaldThis is disgraceful. No other profession would allow themselves to be treated this way.
NatHawkins
NatHawkinsAppallingly ill conceived. A waste of training and resources. Desperately unhappy doctors. A huge skill drain abroad. Ultimately patients will die from this. Sign petitions, write to your MSP, campaign, and get the BMA to actually represent us (instead of using the position as a line on their CV). Contact the papers, and financial backers of opposing political parties. This can be legally challenged. The Labour government have gone too far this time. If necessary, all non-essential outpatient services must stop. We must protect our patients from this politically driven disgrace.
ShonaJenkinsIt is all very well to set a date for the implementation of a new system in advance of the details being worked out. This is similar to what we do in a hospital situation when we set a potential "discharge date" for a patient. However, if come the "discharge date", the patient is still sick and requiring medical attention, he/she does not get discharged. The same priniciple should apply to MMC.

RobertDrummondNo other profession would allow themselves to be dictated to like this. Why should we?

RachelFosterHow has our 'caring' profession earned a dehumanised training scheme in which the importance of interplay of personalities, wider responsibilities to family, and gaining experience over time as a path to clincal competence have been negated. I fear for ourselves and our patients.

rameshmunjalshorter working hours and shorter period of training will obviosly produce doctors who will have less confidence and inadequate experience and perhaps limited knowledge base. The whole world respects british trained physicians and surgeons for their depth of knowledge and thoroughness but with current plans of MMC the bright future and respect of next generation of doctors will be destroyed. They will have homoepathic (small quantity) knowledge and will provide nurse consultant like treatment. The latter title does not serve any purpose except undermine the caring profession and should be abolished.

ChrisWhiteSHO in Winchester MMC is a disaster. It needs more time and planning to avoid melt down in August 2007. Everyone can see this but nothing is being done.

CarlReynoldsI think it's hard to defend a central application system without a common exit exam.
AnonymousAnonymousI actually think they should scrap academic ranking totally for jobs, because if i came in 3rd quartile in oxbridge and someone else came 1st quartile in southampton or sheffield, then i think it's silly to compare two students in that way bcoz the course is totally different, and the level of competition is also different. and yes i know this counts as a petition signature, but i don't give a fuck. exams are a useless measure of aptitude for bein a doc, everyone who passes finals has to know roughly the same shit and after that its up to u

GaryNicholsonThese jobs aren't truly competitive. They will go to those who fill their RITA folders with the biggest amount of needless paperwork.
RobertAndersonTrained doctors now run the risk of not being able to continue within their chosen speciality and in some cases may not get a job within medicine at all. I fail to see how this system which was poorly conceived and has not been finalised, is to benefit doctors and their training or patients.
SamAl-JafariWe continue to see the destruction of our chosen profession, morale is at an all time low and the UK stands to lose thousands of doctors.
