karen grubb | how long will it be before communism is official in the UK? :(
Anonymous | I simpley don't enjoy going out to my local anymore. Who wants to stand outside in the rain, wind and cold? Why should we? what a supid law. What is wrong with a smoking room for smokers only?
Rose Howard | This ban has been taken too far. Most hotels do not even have smoking bedrooms.
jayne smith |
Peter Gatti | I was stationed in England back in the 60's. What a great country it once was. Not any more, not with Big Brother spy cameras and Nazi anti-smoking signs.
ranulph | I'm not a smoker, but this ban is rubbish. It is killing the pubs and small businesses. Either ban tobbaco completely or let people smoke wherever they want.
ray | with this ban it proves we live in a dictatership not a democracy. freedom to vote what a joke there has been no freedom to vote in the last 12 long labour years of dictatorship first blair now brown. also is'nt it true that mp's are allowed to smoke in the bars in the house's of parliment they say it's because of security, what about smokers security when we have to stand outside on a dark cold winters night with all the hoodies hanging around. but were only worth are taxes and then when there is an election. mp's look after themseleves and there kids who do research for £20000 part time per year
Rob M-Fox | This country sucks!!!
| 3509 | mrs carol whitaker | If everyone stopped smoking where would the NHS be. We know very well it would be in a very sorry state. The cigareets we CHOOSE to buy is taxed to high heaven, these taxes help to pay a high percentage towards the NHS. What on earth is going to happen if everyone stopped smoking? Where would the gorvenment get the money from then?
It is a down right cheek and ao hypicritical of the Labour goverenment placing so much pressure on us smokers when they need our money. We have a right to choose if we want to smoke just the same righs as the beer drinker and obeste people!!!! |
James Whittaker | Licencees/clubs should have the choice for THEIR clientele, some have spent 1,000's installing air cleaners/scrubbers all to no avail

Alex Sang |
Graham Palmer | Allow freedom of choice. Have smoking & non-smoking pubs. Pubs closing all over the country, losing a basic English way of life. Stop being a 'nanny' state.
colin hughes | everybody refers to the "nanny state" but no one realises the severity as it turns into the a "nazi state" .where else in the world has minorities with a louder more influencial voice than the majority ? the smoking ban is only one instance of our choice being taken away by cretins who have nothing better to do than dream up ridiculous laws against the common man, what next freedom of speech ? (we already have that ban as well)
M Shapiro | How is it free if I am not free to open a cafe for "Smokers Only"!!!
| 3516 | Anonymous | Banning vending machines will put a lot of people out of work this has been our sole business for 40years and
totally against the banning of vending machines in pubs and clubs this has been our sole buissnes for the last 40 years its ruining peoples socisl lives |
Alan Garbutt | I lease a pub and have seen my takings fall and my costs soar (it's not only the chancellor) allowing sensible smoking would help to keep our heritage alive
Anonymous |
garry briggs | why can't the government do as the isle of man have done. if a pub has more than one room, make one smoking and one non smoking. that is called freedom of choice.
GEOFF NEWMAN | THIS IS AN ATTACK ON THE BRITISH WAY OF LIFE BY A BUNCH OF POLITICALLY CORRECT NAZIS
Jean Bailey |
george gallagher | FREEDOM TO SMOKE ANYWHERE
Heather Miller | This nation is becoming less and less of what could be refered to as a "free country"... The smoking bans are an infringment of my supposed rights as an American citizen. There are already non-smoking bars, how can the smoking bars be taken away? It is a complete injustice.

Anonymous |
John Baker | The smoking ban is killing our pub heritage, pure and simple and all based on lies about SHS.
david nicolson |
Jason Kerr | This ban is ridiculous, not just because it is based around dodgy evidence but mainly because it has taken away the individual freedom of choice. Smoking is not illegal so why should it be illegal to smoke in public places?

Kostas G |
Val Painter | Why can't we have smoking or non-smoking clubs and pubs or effective smoke extractors. Therefore giving people the freedom of choice
jackie quirk | why have the british public got so little back-bone. Stand up for your rights to smoke.
Natasha Davitt |
Adele Davies | im not a smoker my self! but i think every1 should have the same rights as every1 else! they wouldent stop me from eating a packet of crisps in a pub or buying a pint so y should they stop people from smoking1
anita mennell | i believe that all pubs should at least have a seperate smoking room, the government is quite happy to take the tax of cigarettes
rosanna | JUST GETTING TO BE A HITLER STALIN THING
Anonymous | The ban is totally wrong. OK ban smoking in restaurants or restaurant areas, but leave those who want to enjoy a pint and a cig to enjoy them in peace, if they can find any pubs or clubs which are still open. Many lost 80%+ of their custom, and never got back to more than 40% of their previous client numbers.
Joyce Park | Labour lost control here in Scotland for the first time in 60 years because of this hated ban. They still will not acknowledge that.
Brenda Orsler |
A. Cox | Also feel it is wrong that employers are not required to provide any external covered area for their employees who smoke.
