CurtisSandefurTXUSResearch shows that men who assault their wife are likely to assault their children, too. The wife needs to come up with a safety plan and plan out a way for her and the children to leave the abusive relationship, she needs a "dose of reality" about what some of the risks and problems are. They aren't insurmountable problems, and many women have overcome them, but they can be difficult ones. Please don't take any chances on leaving your abusive relationship if your partner threatened to kill you. When you're dead...you're dead...that's it. The Bible makes it clear that the conduct of a parent can have an significant impact on a child, either for good or for bad. Put simply, beating one's mate and/or children is a gross sin in God's eyes. In 2 Timothy 3:1-3, the Bible states that during "the last days" of this system of things, many would be "abusive" with "no natural affection," and "fierce." The prevalence of spouse and children abuse is simply another indication that we are living in the very "last days." May God watch over you and your children and protect you from harm.
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSOur granddaughter is going to her father, a New Mexico resident, with a criminal records involving drugs, weapons and sex. Judge will not listen to evidence of his neglect or abandonment.

AnonymousAnonymousTXUSEvery other weekend I watch my girlfriend's son cry because he has to go to his father's. It's as if we're punishing him for no reason. He has an abusive sister, a father who could care less about what is going in his son's life, and a step-mother who yells, (along with his father) at him if he speaks up about how unhappy he is there. It is mentally affecting him.

dianehittermanTXUSThe court system regarding child visitaion and custody needs to br revamped. It's about money not children.
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSUnfortunately, there are multiple cases of abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual) perpetuated by mothers also. Sadly, in Texas, fathers start out at a disadvantage, and, lots of time and much money later, they sometimes find that, irregardless of what the mother has done, (domestic violence, drugs, etc,) Texas laws and judges still tend to be prejudiced toward awarding custody of the children to the mother. It's an age-old problem, and one that almost every family law attorney in Texas will grudgingly admit during the very first consultation. It's almost impossible to remove a child from their mother--no matter what she's done--and what she may "possibly do", based on her history, is a guess on everybody's part, so that can't even be considered in the divorce/custody action. "We can't really do anything until the child gets hurt," seems to be the prevailing thought. While physical and sexual abuse may be obvious and documented, emotional abuse is not as easily detected, yet can leave life-long scars also. While I agree in general with what you say, I also would emphasize that a mother should NOT automatically be given primary custody simply because she bore the child--irregardless of the age of the child. Not proudly, I confess that I am a relative of a young woman who is now involved in a horrible scheme, to the detriment of her child, where the child is being used as a pawn, purely as a means of support for the mother who, incidentally, has never worked, and has no plan to work in the future--and as long as she can retain custody of the child, she is insured a monthly child support check. So, the father's aren't ALWAYS the "bad guys" they're made out to be. Protecting the rights of the father could go a long way toward protecting the child's best interests and well-being!

JacquelineJacksonTXUSWe need to affect change in this state. I love Texas, but the custody laws are harsh where fathers are concerned. My friend is going through a divorce. He and his soon to be ex-wife are Muslim. According to Sharia law he gets custody since she is getting married next month (Islamically) to a man in North Carolina. She will not be legally divorced until January. She is committing adultery and is threatening to take the kids. She used Islam to get the divorce she wanted and now that she is free ignores all the tenets that don't suit her. She has traveled to North Carolina and is receiving a $50 dollar muhr(dowery) while she sticks my friend with child support he can't afford to pay. He is the better parent and should be chosen custodian over his philandering ex-wife.
StaceyAbbottMIUSMy ex stole my 2 girls and has been hiding them for three years. Now the state of Texas tracked me and told me he is in jail for first degree aggrevated sexual assult to a child MY DAUGHTERS!! He told them I abandonded them and they are letting him decided where they should stay while he is in jail and are refusing to send them back to me!? CPS said he has been the on caring for him so it is his right....What about mine and my children .where are our rights. Something has to be done!
ArinAnonymousTXUSIm a 14 year old girl, my mother is an alcoholic and my father, who I am close with, lives 500 miles away. I dont know if I am allowed to sign this, but I am all for it. The law is ridicoulous, and Im glad there is others who agree. Thanks for this
AnonymousAnonymousTXUScps took my grandkids a year ago after i call for help and i haven't been able to see them since .i advise people not to call cps ,do what you can and keep your kids in your life

PashaReevesTXUSMy daughter's father gets our daughter every other weekend but he's been out the the picture for 3 yrs now and he went to the Attorney General to tell them that I haven't given him visitation. Which isn't true he didn't want to make himself look bad. But my daughter dislocated her finger in his care he refused to take her to get medical attention, she had to go the entire weekend with a dislocated finger. That was very painful for her. And also he lives in a three bedroom house and makes my daughter sleep on the floor in the living room, she's not allowed to sleep in any of the bedrooms at all. The State of Texas does not protect our children the animal cruelty laws have stiffer consequences than the child abuse laws or child rights laws.
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSMy ex-wife cheated on me and then left me for her boyfriend. I hired a lawyer to handle the divorce and get me custody of my son. Well he told me that In Orange County(Texas) that the mother always gets custody of the child. Well that is what happened and my son is miserable. He hates living with her and her new husband. She could care less about him and only wants the child support. She went so far as to tell my son the reason he has to wear clothes that do not fit him to school is because I do not pay my child support. Well that is not true. I am ahead on my child support and take and do more for my son in a weekend than she does all year round. DADS should be able to have custody of there children and then when the are proved unfit then they should be taken away. NOT ALL MOMS SHOULD HAVE CHILDREN. MOST MOMS WOULD NOT PUT THERE CHILDREN THRU THIS. But this is what TEXAS LAWS SAY. The mother gets custody. BULL CRAP
SandraLoweryMSUSNo one who can hurt a child should be aloud to be close to children . parent hood is a gift from god . Children don't ask to be born ,They only ask that we love them and protect.

AnonymousAnonymousNMUSI am going through the same thing, it has gotten bad. I wish someone will help my son. My daughter is ruined and she wont talk about what my ex did to her, but he relinguished his rights to her. The court here in NM gave him custody even after his one year supervised visitation suicidal attempt, domestic violence etc... now my son tells his sister everything his father and stepmother does to him and he wants to come home. Someone needs to listen to the children.
KristenLindleyTXI wish that someone could tell me how in the world these men have retained custody of their kids when my fiance who I share two children with cannot get standard visitation with his son. There is so much that has gone on I cannot even begin to put it into words but I will try. She didn't even tell us that the baby was born but demanded c/s BEFORE he got here. We had to go to the OAG to have a DNA test done just so he would be on the birth certificate, that pissed her off. Big Mistake going to the OAG by the way. They are just as biggotted against men as any other institution out there. So he signed a custody agreement just so he would KNOW he could see his son and now the judge says that she doesn't like the fact that he and I are living together though we share 2 kids and will not allow the baby to come spend the night with us. HA! This is a man who puts himself through hell every night and pays his child support and wants to be a part of his life and the system is stopping him. WHAT A FREKING JOKE WE HAVE FOR JUSTICE. Make is easy on the bad guys while the few good ones stand by the way side and suffer for the igonorance of the rest of the world.
ScottCaskeyTXUSCustody and Child Support need to be revamped to make custody equal and child support a thing of the past. Joint financial responsibility is the only fair way to go.

lenorarobertsARme and my sister just came back from texas today after loosing custody of her son yesterday in court. my sister and her son are booth from arkansas and he his six but for one year they lived in texas before the divorce but the texas courts felt they had juridiction and then gave custody to a man whose son throws up at even the mention of going to his fathers house and during visits he digs a hole in the yard that he told the social worker for the case study for court that the hole was so he could dig his way out of there.

JamesMorrowTXUSMy two stepdaughters might have to go back to an alcoholic father. They have been lucky enough to have supervised visits for the last six years. He owns a bar now and wants regular visitation. What a joke.

PamelaGrubbVAUSI am not from Texas, but I do agree that custody laws do need revised in a big way in all states. Which my daughter and myself had to realize the hard way!
AnonymousAnonymousTXUSMy husband and I are currently going through a child custody lawsuit to get custody of his 2 year old son. My step-son's mother lives in HUD housing, can't afford to get him new clothes or keep his shots current, yet the state has determined she is the best parent for him. We are working to change this.
AnonymousAnonymousAZWe need to take our children back from the government contol of our families. the Mondale Act has destroyed many families lives and the future of our children.
