Disinsection is the practice of spraying pesticides in aircraft cabins, sometimes during a flight or just before passengers board the plane. There is no requirement for an airline to inform the passengers and crew about the spraying. Individuals such as infants, pregnant women and asthmatics are at higher risk, when exposed to these pesticides. Pesticides sprayed inside aircraft cabins can cause even greater harm because of the poor ventilation, causing these harmful chemicals to break down slowly.
Crews and passengers emerging from these flights have complained of itching, cough, sinus problems, swollen eyes, breathing difficulties, skin rashes/hives, severe headaches and fatigure. In some cases, these symptons have escalated to the more serious immune, respiratory and neurological problem.
Please sign this important petition to support the US Department of Transportation led project to find non-chemical alternatives to keep insects out of the aircraft cabin. Our crews and passengers cannot continue to be exposed to potentially harmful pesticides everytime they board an aircraft. The possible side effects to their health are way too serious to ignore. |
