Dear Mr Lewis
The signatories of this petition are seriously concerned about the lack of any clarity in the Rugby Football League's Disciplinary Process.
Some years ago, The NRL in Australia introduced a tariff system that clearly defines the punishments that could be expected for all types of offence that may fall within the disciplinary procedure While we accept that the Tariff System may still have problems, it is at least, clear to all involved in the sport. Players, club officials, match officials and not least, spectators are all aware of the consequences of being dismissed or cited for foul play. Unfortunately in this country, the disciplinary is still held behind closed doors and those making the decisions do so without any requirement to explain their decisions.
As the biggest stakeholders in UK Rugby Football League, we the fans, demand the current system be changed to something similar to the Australian Tariff System. We feel that only such a change would help dispell the fears that certain Clubs or players are given favourable treatment while those in less fortunate positions are treated in a more draconian manner.
We realise that some improvements have already been made but they have done little to prevent the perception that disciplinary decisions are still made behind closed doors in a smoke-filled room.
The only way forward is the introduction of a Tariff System. |
