Nadege Charles | It's a shame that this is what we have come to in The United States of America. I've been to Haiti, I've seen shantytowns where the government neglects and refuses its citzens. But never had I imagine that The United States of America, one of the most powerful and richest nations could fail its citizens astronomically nationwide when it comes down to the poor.

Alicin H. | I never realized this was such a problem until heard about Umoja. Now I just want to help!

Kari Greer | It is absurd to consider, in a nation that is so wealthy, and so powerful, we are content in neglecting the most needy in our own country. Take power away from ignorance and arrogance. Inform those who do not know, and stand firm against those who are aware, but chose to forget.
Carina Edwards | Transparency and accountability are key to a functioning society. When we don't know what happened to the millions meant for affordable housing and no one is taking responibility for it, it is the responsibility of a GOOD City Government to get to the bottom of it and RETURN the money for housing to the REAL Residents of Miami

Amber Spurlock | The price of living goes up, minimum wage stays the same. How can anyone working a full time minimum wage job afford outragous prices for housing?? Places like the shantytown give people hope who are seeking it. We all need to wake up and imrove our country before we go over seas and improve others. WE need help.
bryan mccoy | i saw about this on youtube and i cant believe how the city of miami is treating their own residents this way!good luck to you all and fight the good fight

Paul Agbeyegbe | It is the duty of the city officials of Miami to support finding and/or building affordable houses for its citizens. What's going on in Shanty Town is unacceptable.
Anonymous | I live in Little Haiti and I have been by the site, but after watching the videos on you tube, remembering why I was forced to move out of my last apartment became more of a catalyst than a catastrophe. I am now going to go to Umoja and see what I can do to help. Thank you for fighting back!

RACHEL WILLIAMS | ITS A DAMN SHAME WHAT U HAVE TO GO THRU TO GET THE GOV. TO LISTEN
James Harris | Leave Umoja Village alone! They're nothing but upstanding citizens taking care of a community crisis, and are doing nothing wrong whatsoever!

loudie valcourt | how can u sit by in your huge homes with the means to help these people affected by your negligent policies and try to arrest them? Leave them alone! They have done more in the past few months than u have done in years.
Frederic E. Poag | Even though I'm from East Tennessee I support your right to have affordable housing. Good luck to you all.

Dayna Baker | I am not in the Miami area, however, the needs of homeless and poor universal. I would be in the same position as many of those people who are fighting for their dignity and humanity if I did not have family who was prepared to take me in and help me during my divorce. I agree the government only sees the dollar signs that many developers bring, but ignores the needs of those who would in turn support the developers in the future if only they would help those who need it help themselves. It is a shame that the people in our wealthy and privilaged nation have to fend for themselves in this manner. Shame on the government. Shame.

Dorothy Rubin | I am so upset by the actions of Miami to displace the people after last nights fire. Let them back on that land and let's take care of them. Don't hide from the fact that we do have homeless people. Here at least they had a community.
Femi Folami-Browne | Continued success with your advocacy Max. I wish you the very best and as soon as I can free up some time from my studies, I will volunteer to do some work with your organization. I still have my files that you may have.

Lovely Pyrame | It is truly unfortunate that in this day and time people are forced to live this way. Especially in a country that has an overwhelming abundance of wealth and a community of citizens that if working collaboratively could not only change this situation, but impact and enrich the lives of so many by just opening our eyes and seeing the real prize. Which from my stand point is that all people, no matter the race, religion, sexual orientation or one's personal beliefs are entitled to the basic necessities of life. Because when it comes down to it we are all of the same heart and will eventually meet the same fate. So I send these words of faith and utter this prayer LORD FATHER PLEASE LET US AWAKEN AND FACE OUR MISTAKES WITH ENOUGH HUMILITY AND LOVE TO TAKE STEPS TO RECTIFY THE NEGATIVITY WITH ACTS OF GRACE, KINDNESS AND COMPASSION. AMEN! Peace and blessings to all those who recognize, identify and empathize with this and similar situations around the country.
