Thania CantaveThis country was built on individuals taking land and setting up housing. No one has apologized to the Native Americans for doing that and now kick people off land that doesn't belong to you any way. Don't kick them out, give them a viable alternative option.
Laurel HaraThank you, Max and everyone involved. We're with you!
Helen Muniz
Eddy LutenAs a Floridian I believe that this issue should be addressed appropriately, not by standing idly by. I will pass on this petition. Great job.
Barbara Tift
Marina KaridesI support Umoja village stance and strategy for addressing limited low income housing in Miami.
Janet ForteI heard Max on NPR today. It was a wonderful way of getting the word out about this situation. I hope that together we can do something about the corruption in the housing agency. It is sickening! I applaud Max and everyone working towards bringing attention to this matter and all the volunteers putting their time and energy for the benefit of homeless and low income people. Thank you!

Larry HawleyIt is disgusting that high priced condos get subsidized by the city and not low income housing. Corruption has been a perpetual problem with city government and whether overt or not, looking out for the upper class over the homeless is corrupt. Show the citizens of South Florida that you have more than political donations in mind when you allot funds.

Anna LevitskyThis is a great movement, in my opinion. What else are these people to do if the government does not help them? I think they are a wonderful example of the power of average citizens to work together to improve their living conditions. It would be a crime to destroy this village. If anything, the city should be supporting and funding this movement! Help the people, especially these people who have gone to great lengths to help themselves!

pamela BennettI am poor. My building is being inspected by a task force on the 23 of January 2007. I hope I am not tossed out due to code violations and placed in the same boat. I wish I could donate, but I cannot.
AnonymousWe demand that the village be promised a long life free of state intervention. We demand housing for all who need it, including the residents of the village.

Joy HunsbergerIt's not very far from the broken promise of 40 acres and a mule to the City of Miami and the Liberty City Trust. You have my whole-hearted respect and support for taking this situation into your own hands.
Charles B. Gumbusky,D.V.M.I pray hurricanes and other disasters do not occur before these people have appropriate housing/shelter. My thoughts are with you.
Dale HardwayUntil we as a people quit exporting misery overseas, having our rights taken away, and take back OUR government. take the land to survive!!!

AnonymousI vacation in Florida every year, as do many of my friends and acquaintances in Pennsylvania. I will not visit Miami, and will encourage others not to spend their tourist dollars in Miami-Dade County, if the revenue generated by our tourism continues to be used--even in part--to prevent local low-income people from securing shelter.

MeganI think the public should be more aware of this. I first found out about Umoja Village through the FIU campus. I am disgusted that people have to live this way.
