What's the Problem?
Current school meals have artificial ingredients, preservatives, and have high fat, salt, and sugar contents that harm the physique of an individual trying to further their education. This can lead to consequences that consist of diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, hypertension, and heart problems.
What's the Solution?
Our policy is to promote healthier lifestyles through more nutritional school meals. According to nutritional guidelines, in order for one to be healthy, one must consume diets high in vegetables including leafy greens. Our new diet guidelines would include ingredients that are low fat- which would prevent drowsiness, low salt- which helps keep blood pressure low, and low sugar- which would help prevent obesity and diabetes. Our plan incorporates government supported local farmers to supply the schools with fresh vegetables and ingredients.

Teens Take the City
The mission of the Teens Take the City program is to prepare high school students for responsible civic leadership roles in New York City’s government by providing training and experience in the theory and practice of public policy while instilling the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. Teens Take the City aims to educate participants about who runs their neighborhoods and how to become active participants in school and community life. Operating in after-school hours within participating YMCA branches, primary program activities will include community mapping projects, educational workshops, and the preparation of a presentation showcasing students’ research and findings. Through these activities, oral and written communication skills will be improved, leadership abilities strengthened, and solid resumes for college developed. The program will provide opportunities for students to:
• Understand the New York City legislative system;
• Read and debate current bills before the New York City Council;
• Meet and work alongside local politicians, professionals and managers of NYC agencies;
• Hold a legislative session in New York City Council Chambers; and
• Pursue internship opportunities within City government
