A PETITION CONCERNING TORONTO COMMUNITY HOUSING CORPORATION CUTS TO SECURITY SERVICES BUDGET
TO THE TORONTO CITY COUNCIL
We, the undersigned residents/neighbours of TCHC, draw the attention of the Toronto City Council to the following:
THAT the clear majority of TCHC residents and their neighbours oppose the budget cuts to TCHC security services, and the proposed contracting out of this service.
THAT these cuts, and the proposed contracting out of services, will put our families and our communities at risk.
THAT private contractors are strangers to our communities and would not have the training, knowledge, and experience the TCHC Housing Officers have to deal with whatever situation might arise.
THAT we have already seen a cut in security staff, which has affected safety and opened the door to an increase in violent crime. Our Housing Officers are the first line of defense. Without them, the police and other emergency services cannot do their jobs as effectively on TCHC property.
THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon Toronto City Council to protect our communities and use your influence with the TCHC Board of Directors to stop these foolhardy cuts to our security services. We cannot take any further cuts. |
