The closest simlar center is Casa Raphael in Vista and they have been nothing more than an absolute assett for the city of Vista. I participated last year in Vistans Rock for example as a house captain and I watched the men from Alpha Project's Casa Raphael take the two most severely blighted homes and turn them into works of art.
The community service that comes out of places like the fellowship center would be a great assett to our city, The area for the project is also very well planned as it is right next to the North County Alano Club, a club that houses daily AA meetings. Oceanside has a long history of gang problems. We have taken strides to get a handle on these issues but I think we need to do our part to address the recovery of the men from north county who became addicted during the height of these problems. We were a part of the problem for a long time. It is not enough to clean up our backyard. We also need to repay some social debts. |
