Dear Mr. Brodhead,
I thought I lived in a country were you were innocent until proven guilty. It is evident that Duke University does not believe this, as you expelled 3 young men that was charged with rape before a trial was ever thought about. This is truly ashame. I am sure you are aware of the developments in this case. I have followed this case very closely and from what I see, Duke University has made a grave mistake by expelling two of the young men. It is my understanding one of them did graduate in May of last year. From all news accounts, and many lawyers who have expressed opinions this prosecutor Mr. Nifong should be put in jail, in my opinion and I think Duke University should go out and above board to treat these other two young men fairly.
I think you should probably give them a little test and average their grades on courses they have completed and give them the same grade on classes they have missed due to the incompetent actions of Duke University expelling them before there was ever a trial. These young men need any and every thing to get their lives back to normal as much as they can, they could not be compensated enough or even given a degree from Duke for what these young men have faced and been degraded. It is truly ashame that Duke did not go by what we all thought was right in this country and again you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I hope you will find some way to make up Duke's actions toward these 3 young men. I do not know any of them or any relative of any of them, I am just a concerned citizen, that thinks you should do every thing in your power to restore these boys back to being as normal as they can possibly be. Thank you.
I have also emailed the Governor of North Carolina and told him the State of North Carolina should pay all 3 of these young men's attorney's fees and to compensate them for the horror they have been put through. I also told him I live in Virginia and would never spend another dime in the State of North Carolina unless they did pay these young men's attorney's and compensate them for the nightmare they have had to live, due to a power hungry prosecutor, and every case he has prosecuted should be thoroughly reviewed by very competent attorneys.
