In addition to having known Reade for more than seven years, and to knowing his parents very well and to have counseled and taught his two brothers, Cameron and Max, I have counseled Reade formally for two years, and have remained close to him and helped counsel him through this latest ordeal. I am totally impressed by Reade's character and strength thru the current crisis. As an experienced counselor of souls for more than 40 years, I am confident that I can detect phoniness and guilt in relating with a person. Not Reade! He is completely authentic and innocent of this accusation. More than that, I and all the other faculty and administrators at my institution immediately eschewed the accusations about Reade. We have always known him as a person of consummate integrity and goodness. I cannot imagine that there are too many young men at Duke University as wholesome as Reade is, and I understand that there are many young people at Duke who would agree with me. A horrible injustice has occurred here. A marvelous young man's personhood and reputation has been seriously violated. Let us all hope and pray that justice will be done on Reade's behalf, and that he will not have been irreparably harmed by this accusation |
