This petition was started due to Yahoo! who were shutting down Pro ana/mia sites and even weight loss/get fit sites, but it extends to all who want to banish Pro ana/mia sites.
This is censorship!!!
I am neither Anorexic or Bulimic, I am simply understanding and accepting of others beliefs.
Aren't you?! So prove it by signing my petition and hopefully this will be a step forward to equal freedom of expression on Yahoo! and elsewhere.
If it starts here where will it end? It is not unlawful to express opinions and come together, so stop telling others how they should live their lives, and what information they can and cannot access online, according to someone's warped moral beliefs.
note: Eating disorders are so complicated and personal that someone can't just stumble upon a (pro ana/mia) website one day, be inspired and then decide to 'become' one themselves.
Everyone knows how hard it is to stick to a diet or to restrict your food intake for whatever reason. Millions of people fail at it every day, so to suggest that these websites make people STARVE themselves is outrageous and a slap in the face to anyone with Anorexia or Bulimia.
People need to take responsibility for themselves and if they can't handle a couple of websites discussing Anorexia or Bulimia then frankly they should not be online, as there are much worse things around.
If people are so easily influenced by what they read online, then it as simple as closing the page and going to a more 'healthy' website, to be influenced by that....
If you agree with the above, or just agree with the fact that having all information available and choosing what to view FOR YOURSELF is a BASIC RIGHT we should all have online, then sign my petition. |
