Freedom From Fear
Students for Burma

“It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it."
-- Aung San Suu Kyi--

Aung San Suu Kyi, has come to be seen internationally as a symbol of heroic and peaceful resistance in the face of oppression. A pro-democracy activist and leader of the National League of Democracy in Myanmar (Burma), and a noted prisoner of conscience and advocate of nonviolent resistance. In 1991 she was awarded the Nobel Prize for her peaceful and non-violent struggle under a military dictatorship. Since then, she has spent more than 11 of the past 18 years in some form of detention.
Led by Buddhist monks, hundreds of thousands of peaceful people are taking to the streets to cry out for an end to the long-standing military dictatorship in Burma, as well as the release of their elected Prime Minister, Aung San Suu Kyi.

With your help, we would like to commission a mural on campus, to serve as a reminder of our own Freedom From Fear. Join us in honoring Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese people, as well as all those who seek the simple human right of freedom for all.
