(Ralphs changed their policy on March 15, 2006. So this is now a petition to reverse their new policy to the old one of doubling 2 of any like coupon.)
There are many reasons for Ralphs Grocery Stores to go back to their previous double coupon policy: doubling 2 of any like coupon's value; not the new policy of doubling one.
(Example: you are buying 2 Colgate toothpastes, and have a $1 off coupon for each tube. Ralphs previously would have double both coupons, making their value $2. But now they will only double the one coupon and the other one is at face value.)
First, millions of California residents rely on Ralphs' double coupon policy to survive, and the middle class use them to stretch their food dollar to get a good deal. Changing it will promote hunger instead of help prevent it. Ralphs placed a large ad recently in the papers that they donate to the Food Banks. While it is decent of them to do that, their changing policy will cause many more to rely upon those services as well as government assistance or to just go hungry. The timing of Ralphs ad is suspicious, as they were planning to change their policy with out warning us, their customers.
Additionally, we thier customers should not have to pay for their recent legal troubles. We endured the strike in 2003, which was unpleasant enough, but now to discover they are changing their coupon policy to help you retrieve the $100 million they were ordered to pay.
Finally, the financial bottom line. If Ralphs keeps their new, changed policy, it will be the same as Vons, and what will the difference be? According to research, not only will Ralphs customers go to Vons, but they will gladly go to Trader Joe's, Sams Club and Costco as well. It all comes down to where the best bargains and customer service are. Trader Joe's, Sams Club and Costco are notorious for excellent customer service. Vons and Ralphs are not, however; we the Ralphs customers, tolerate it for the double coupons. |
