AlexKY04I understand the fears of voting against this bill, particularly since it is so povocatively named. The reality, however, is that DOPA would prevent very few dangerous online encounters for children and it could conceivably block access to thousands of highly useful sites.

LaceyTX04Haven't we relinquished enough controll over the past five years? When are we going to wake up and realize that things are not changing for the better?

AnonymousMN01I believe that anyone should use Myspace, AIM, or any other sites like these. It is another way my can express ourselves, like clothing or personality, and make friens with people we might other wise never know.
TravisMI04I don't believe that children should be absolutely denied the right to use the internet, they should just be supervised by a competent adult who knows what to look for and what actions to take. It's the predators that shouldn't be allowed to use the internet, anyone with past history of sexual deviance or convictions.

Don't sacrifice rights or libertys for security folks, this is not how one becomes more secure. What they want is Censorship, plain and simple. Don't let it get this Bad all over the world: http://www.indexonline.org/ Save American Freedoms Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. If you don't fight back, this is what it's coming to here in the "U. States" (proper abbreviation of these United States): New York, October 3, 2006—The U.S. military has detained an Al-Jazeera cameraman for five years without charge or trial on the basis of secret evidence. http://www.cpj.org/Briefings/2006/DA_fall_06/prisoner/prisoner.html Thank You for your time.

JohnTX04The name of the act is the Deleting Online Predators Act. This legislation would do more than just delete predators. It would delete legitmate online contact. If you really want to protect your kids from online predators: Log their IM's, put up firewalls, do whatever it takes, but the important thing is respect. Respect is the key to safety. Without it, there IS no safety.
IanFL02Myspace is a place for teens to express themselfs and taking it away can cause suicide between friends. I saved a friend from suicide using myspace in school I contacted police and me and the officers used myspace to locate her. Without myspace she wouldn't be alive.
JacobFL01I dont like it how all of a sudden our superiors think that they should take away a good place for classmates, real friends and that sort can meet and talk about hw etc. My school sent out a letter to all the parents that MySpace was a place of refuge for sexual predators. Though there will always be some number of perverts out there, you don't have to take it away from everyone.
AnonymousFL02Myspace Saved my friend's friends' life,(with help from my friend)
JoshFL02Simply put, it is the duty of American parents to educate their children on internet safety in this ever-changing world, instead of choosing to inhibit progress.
ToniCO07I teach school. The power of these social networking sites have really connected with students. I love using youtube and getting videos from other countries. Isolated kids from the world in the very source they use is very diditalimmigrant. Students know what to do when directed and taught. We talk about competing in the world economy. Well when we disconnect the world because of paranoria, you were be even further behind. This law will set us back forever, Do you really think sites like this will diminish?
LaurieWA01Myspace helps connects you with your friends, past and present. You don't need to delete Myspace just to get rid of online predators, just tell people to be smarter on what they write about themselves.
AnonymousAK02I attend a boarding school away from my hometown, and Myspace is not only a way to express myself, but a way to keep in touch with people at home!

MichaelSC03All that i have to say to those seemingly idiotic people in charge of the free world is this: maybe instead of sitting at home thinkin up dumb ideas for pointless laws against a friend site, maybe focus on something a little more pressing. maybe... POVERTY? how about the fact that while congress sits in your comfy leather chairs, think about the people that are barely getting by. dont you dare base this on christian ideals, saying that its wrong, because if you say that, maybe you should think that people are SUFFERING. The official poverty rate in 2005 was 12.6 percent, not statistically different from 2004. also, In 2005, 37 million people were in poverty, also not statistically different from 2004. so to the republicans in congress, all i have to say is because of idiots like bush who use anger, fear, and uncertainty to gain points for public approval, maybe if you actually listened to the people whom you are supposed to represent, you would get a clue as to why so many people hate you. im probably never going to vote republican again because all the republicans seem to know how to do is make idiots of yourselves and others. god bless america, eh?

JohnCA04Save us from the whims of our politicians, which are far more common - and more dangerous - than the internet predator ever was.
