JodySteinerMAUSIf we are welcoming PR as an affiliate, and always reaching out to interpreters of a diverse ethicity--- Spanish Language interpreting is a must. This is reminiscent of the debate of whether or not conferences should be conducted in ASL. Let's welcome and support our fellow terps for whom English is not a first language.

MollySheridanTXUSLimited access undermines our mission of what we do--interpret to optimize access. Thank you.

ElizabethHenriksenDCUSI find it disturbing that RID would decide to implement this policy JUST before a conference in SAN ANTONIO where Spanish speaking interperters are more prevalent than any other region we have hosted a national conference!

ElaineStagnerCAUSRID should provide Spanish Language interpreting if any number of people request it.
GinaGonzalezTXUSIt should only require one request to accommodate attendees at a conference.
JoseBarrazaWIUSNo matter if there is 25 or more and we have some latinos there and they did not prvides any terps for that conference and it's not fair for our people not to munderstand what is conference all about, in your mind we need to provide tri-language for that conference that mean lots to our latinos community.....Thanks for your time to reading this. 211 BonnieGibsonCAUSI know several trilingual interpreters that are available - is this history repeating itself, only in a different language? I have been a memver for 25 years and I remember RID having problems having ASL interpreters at every event. This can be worked out smoothly and efficiently.
SharonDittoALUSAs the population of Hispanics continues to grow in the US, RID should be on the cutting edge of providing services and training to deaf users of Spanish sign language. It may be expensive and difficult to provide access to the conference, but we demand the same type services every day for users of ASL on an individual basis. The stated number of 25 participants seems too high and arbitrary.

JenniferKaikaMDUSIf the Puerto Rico Chapter is a part of RID, then they should have the same access to RID sponsored events that other chapters enjoy. With the Views and testing not being in Spanish, the least that could be done is to provide interpreters for the national conference, which is only held once every two years. We need to think beyond the needs of the interpreters who need Spanish interpretation, and think about their deaf consumers in Puerto Rico. How much more would they benefit by having better trained and more knowledgeable interpreters?

lisachiangoIn a Region of the United States that is hosting the 2005 Conference, there are many native spanish users in both sign and voice. Please make it accessible for these individuals to benefit from attending as Spanish is recognized as an official language, whether spoken or in sign language. Thank you for considering the petition.

TaliaGoekeWAUSLatino people are the fastest growing population in US plus now PR is an affiliate chapter. RID should have Spanish Lang terps even if only one person requests it--just like ASL terp requests. Would RID think it appropriate if a company said they would only provide an ASL terp only if 25 or more Deaf people requested one? Of course not. RID should be consistant. Thanks.
