Ernie's has been ground zero for downtown violence. Whether or not Ernie's encourages this intolerable behavior is no longer up for debate. The fact is there has been everything from stabbings to assassinations at or in front of this establishment, and with seemingly more frequency. The time has come for Ernie's ownership to cut its, and more to the point, the community's losses and close its doors. Ernie's has done a poor job of policing its clientèle and no longer has a place in this community.
New London does not need and certainly cannot afford this type of publicity, especially as the city's most prominent event is just weeks away. Business owners, residents and downtown patrons alike all have a common interest in Ernie's closing its doors once and for all.
Ask yourself why it is every other liquor establishment downtown can provide a safe environment for its patrons and Ernie's can't seem to keep its patrons alive. It is understood that some of these victims have allegedly involved themselves in criminal activity; yet, no other establishment downtown has the problems that Ernie's continues to have.
Ernie's has become a public safety problem and we are left with no other choice but to call for it's sudden and prompt demise.
If Ernie's does not voluntarily keep its doors closed for good, we will have no choice but to picket outside its doors until our objective is achieved.

Once Ernie's is closed for good, it will then be on every business owner and citizen in this city to be vigilant and active in driving out the elements that choose violence and crime over mediation and hard work. We should all be disgusted with ourselves for allowing it to get this far.
Let's work together to eradicate this city of this senseless violence and continue to foster this city's very bright future.
