This petition is to name the high school field in Kemp, TX in remembrance of Dallas Fire and Rescue Officer Scott Tanksley who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on February 10, 2014 while operating on an icy overpass in Dallas, Texas. Tanksley was a 14 year veteran of the department. He leaves behind a wife and three children between the ages 4-12. Scott grew up in Kemp playing baseball and graduated in 1992.

Tanksley played parts of three years in the Minnesota Twins minor league system. The Twins drafted him in the 22nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of Mississippi State University, a perennial college baseball powerhouse. Former Texas Ranger Will Clark and current Ranger first baseman Mitch Moreland both played for the Bulldogs. After Scotts brief professional baseball career ended, he went back to a quiet life in his rural hometown of Kemp, joined Dallas Fire-Rescue and started a family.

Tanksley coached his son in Little League. The boy and Tanksley’s daughter attend Kemp ISD schools, where Tanksley’s mother and his wife, Wendi, used to work. The couple would have soon celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.

I caught for this young man... He had more talent than any pitcher. I seen his curve ball run good hitters out of the box only to hear the ref call a strike. He was humble and kind. He had two amazing parents you loved all there children very much. Scotty was top shelf.

This Hero deserves a lasting legacy and naming the field in his honor where he played his heart out would only be fitting and beautiful tribute for a fire fighter who gave the ultimate sacrifice

We need to honor our fire and police personnel. they choose that line of work on their own. They dont have to choose to serve the public. Support the Tanksley family and your local public service folks.

This man was an incredible athlete when he was in school, he and his father worked with many kids to help them with baseball, and of my recollection, he is the only graduate to go on to play professional baseball... i would love to see a tribute to his life and gining bu naming our baseball fiedl in his honor..

An awesome tribute to both him and his dad who loved coaching him. His mother and sisters who sacrificed time with his playing. And his son and daughters...to see the impact he made. Also to those little ones he coached. A TRUE ROLE MODEL TO LOOK UP TO.
