The petition
The property at 116 Old Pittsboro Rd is one of the only green spaces left in downtown Carrboro. (Picture: Carrboro Central Park!). In addition to its ecological diversity & geographic importance to the region (research shows green spaces are absolutely crucial to breathable, livable cities), the land houses important community projects—such as the ReCYCLEry, the WITT, and many more-- that are vital to ensuring a sustainable and livable future in Carrboro and beyond! The Carrboro Greenspace: Center for Community and Sustainability is both a physical space and an idea. Located in a beautiful park-like commons in downtown Carrboro, the land is home to a federation of projects aimed at creating sustainability and community. It is both a site for learning about and engaging with alternative technologies, life-practices, and cultures, and a beautiful place where people can simply be-in community. This land is a treasure that we simply cannot afford to lose!
By signing below I am expressing my strong support that this land be maintained as a publicly accessible community & green space that will not be developed! While this may be private property, I believe that when ecological costs and benefits to a community are so high, these factors must be taken into consideration and the purchase of the property by an entity that promises to conserve and cultivate its best features, must be supported-by public entities, as well as those with the means to help.
