I persnally rely on the quick and free information to supplement my activities in the SKYWARN and ARES events we have from time to time here in North Texas. As I voulunteer my time and equipment, having to pay for such a service from any commercial enterprise would not bennifit my community which I serve. Also, since AccuWeather relays information obtained from the NWS, taxpayers should not be required to purchase or otherwise supplement Accuweather's bussiness being they are selling freely available information, that the American taxpayer has already paid for via appropriations to the National Weather Service. Should Accuweather want to install and operate their own data gathering equipment, including radar, then that is their perrogative. They could then sell this information as their own, and not be liable to the taxpayer. They should not be allowed to sell information the taxpayer has already paid for. |

After looking at the 2 disastrous hurricanes that have hit our coastal regions. Do you think all of those folks who were affected could have afforded to pay for that weather forcast? Please start trying to understand the poor working folks who you would like to have vote for your re-election. I really think you are so far removed from what these folks encounter on a daily basis that you just don't understand. You seem so out of touch that I doubt you would ever begin to understand. We all pay for our children's education. We can't afford to own two homes, so we can get free education as you were able to. I cannot imagine how much worse it would have been with Rita and Katrina were it not for the excellent work of the National Weather Service.
