charlesbutlerFLUSthis is one of the stupidest pieces of legislation i have ever seen.rick santorum is a clown.p.s.i am a republican.hopefully he has opposition in the primary.
PaulReadlyPAUSAccuweather just packages data they get from NOAA and calls it their own. (note, you can see this on every weather report that accuweather produces.
RogerDeVoreFLUSGet serious and don't have any more corporate give aways. George Bush and his corporate buddies are out to screw the average taxpayer. Stop this insanity.
danthorpeAs long as the elected bow to those that finance their campaigns gov't will be corrupted.BAN ALL PRIVATE CAMPAIGN MONEY.

JayPetersenKeep the NOAA weather info in the public domain! My taxes pay for it, and the Internet gives us life saving access to this vital public service. DO NOT PRIVATIZE NOAA FOR GREEDY, SELFSERVING CORPORATIONS!!!!

JaniceCallumNEUSThose of us who live on boats a good deal of the time have no access to Accuweather or any other weather source except NOAA. Imagine no one on a boat knowing about Hurricane Katrina!

PeterFosterThe Bill is ludicrous and untenable. I am vehemently opposed to it.

michaelhornFLUSThe US Navy is losing a large majority of it's weather forecasters and military base officials are now being told to refer to the National Weather Service for thier forecast. As a Navy Forecaster I can tell you weather plays a hugh role in day to day operations. Severe weather only simply is detrimental to military readiness. I find it amazing this is even being considered.

Jane HensonFLUSThis has to be one of the worst bills ever proposed. I urge you to vote no to this ultimately very dangerous and foolhardy proposal.
ShawnMcClintockTXUSReducing or removing any services the National Weather Service provides to the public would be a great detriment to public safety. I persnally rely on the quick and free information to supplement my activities in the SKYWARN and ARES events we have from time to time here in North Texas. As I voulunteer my time and equipment, having to pay for such a service from any commercial enterprise would not bennifit my community which I serve. Also, since AccuWeather relays information obtained from the NWS, taxpayers should not be required to purchase or otherwise supplement Accuweather's bussiness being they are selling freely available information, that the American taxpayer has already paid for via appropriations to the National Weather Service. Should Accuweather want to install and operate their own data gathering equipment, including radar, then that is their perrogative. They could then sell this information as their own, and not be liable to the taxpayer. They should not be allowed to sell information the taxpayer has already paid for.

JudithEdaNYUSHere we go again: entrusting critical information sources into fewer and fewer hands DOES NOT make our country safer. Santorum is just trying to steer some pork towards "The Weather Channel": A Bad Idea!
BrianKeeganFLUSThe people fund the NWS and depend on the information. Please keep the information available to the public. Sincerely, Brian Keegan

Elizabeth FKluteCAUSI am the Warning Manager for Contra Costa County California. We access and utilize many varied sources of information to develop alert and warning notification for the good people of Contra Costa County inclusive of Weatherbug, Accuweather and other available sources. The NWS is a critical partner in our Community Warning System Program and as such, I do NOT support the efforts of the National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005. It should be killed in committee. This is submitted as a personal position, not that of the Sheriff or the County.

EileenMazzaPAUSSenator Santorum, Please start paying attention to us folks who you are supposed to represent!!! Do not vote to privatize our weather information. After looking at the 2 disastrous hurricanes that have hit our coastal regions. Do you think all of those folks who were affected could have afforded to pay for that weather forcast? Please start trying to understand the poor working folks who you would like to have vote for your re-election. I really think you are so far removed from what these folks encounter on a daily basis that you just don't understand. You seem so out of touch that I doubt you would ever begin to understand. We all pay for our children's education. We can't afford to own two homes, so we can get free education as you were able to. Come down from your high throne and look around, talk to people, and start making some good common sense on issues affecting the working poor of your state!!!

MichaelQueenTXOur tax payers money operate this service to help the small business if the senator would like us to quit paying taxes and sending it to a weather service company we will.
JohnWillUSThis bill makes no sense other to server a pupose to put money in the pockets of Accuweather, a company that has bought out and closed down multiple sites over the past year making it harder for the public to get accurate weather forecasts without spending more money. Saftey is at issue, these companies are in it for profict not protecting the public or providing a public service. That is the duty of the NWS. I stronlgy opposse this bill.

JasonBerkeyMDUSThis is a good cause. We are a private company that relies on NOAA to provide our services. We don't charge for this information but other companies wish to have customers double dip into tax payers funded government program. NOAA.gov is a similar governement website that is working and does what it was asked to do. NO CRAZY EXPEDITURES. NOAA must stay free with information available to all. Once again our government is speaking for us and trying to protect us from nothing. This is made to only provide information for companies that are funded by taxpayers. This is unexceptable.

JerryDierksOHUSThis bill is bullcrap the citizens of the USA pay for the NWS, we shouldn't have to shell out more money.
JohnNelsonILUS
SandraKearNYUS The National Weather Service has improved our understanding of how weather works, including massive hurricanes - allowing us to have days advance warning. I cannot imagine how much worse it would have been with Rita and Katrina were it not for the excellent work of the National Weather Service. Decreasing their services would be a gross dereliction of duty in the part of the United States Government.
