Wendy Hayden | If the council's decision was to relocate the pool to Blackbird Leys, it would not be practicable for me to to use the facilities. I currently swim nearly every day of the week (and have done so for years) - I would not be able to do this anymore. I think the pool is a very important part of the Cowley community. I am also adverse to the idea of village style, changing facilities - this would definately cut down on social interaction.

Dave Todd | The location of this pool is central to its role in providing much needed fitness facilities to the East Oxford area. It simply has to stay

Glenn Williams | I grew up living next to this pool for 25 years. The idea of it being closed is terrible.
Jennie B | Agree that the pool is quite handily located, should not be relocated and levelled to the ground. However, it *does* need some TLC from the council and revamping from the 80s hive that it currently is. I don't *actually* disagree with unisex changing rooms, however, understand people's disgruntlement toward them.
Chris Cole | Our whole family (2 adults and 3 children) use the pool and we woulld find it very difficult it the pool was closed and moved to Blackbird Leys
Sonia Lester | I would be very unhappy and very cross if cowley pool is closed. There are few leisure facilities in East Oxford outside of Blackbird Leys and the tax payer of this city should not lose what small amount we have.
Oliver Parsons-Baker | I think it would be a disgrace to close a facility. It should be upgraded like Ferry Sports Centre was to provide an even better service to the residents. I do not want to travel to Blackbird leys, an area I dont know, to swim. We all pay our council tax and thats where it should be spent, in providing services to local people in local areas.
Frank Newhofer |
Carrie Hudson | I have used the women only faxcilities whilst living in the area,it would be a grat shame to loose these facilities.

| 18 | Lee Williams | Not living in the area this is no longer a facility I use, but having grown up in Temple Cowley, I feel that the demolition of the swimming pool and moving it to BBL is atrocious. Apart from the fact the pool belongs in Temple Cowley, easily accessible by bus or car from throughout, BBL, Oxford/Cowley Rd, Horsepath and even Rosehill, the proposed site to relocate to is ridiculous.
Unless things have changed recently, apart from the few decent folk, BBL is not the nicest of places to visit. And vandalism of the facilities would not just be likelihood but a certainty. Possible patrons to the pool would also be put off from using the facilities due to the location. |

Robin Massart | Don't close the pool!!!!!
Iva Partridge-Junkova | It would be a great shame. It is one of the best things about Cowley! My family loves this great and convemiently placed facility, with its many events and lovely staff.
Jo Renshaw | The swimming pool is the best thing about this area. Because it is not chlorinated, it is the only pool where myself and my children (who suffer from eczema) can swim. I would be furious if it closed.
Rachael Williams | Wail! Cowley can't close!! We live in Banbury & travel to Cowley because the pool is so much better there.
Lyn Chase | We live in Banbury and make the effort to travel to Cowley several times a week as we enjoy the varied options Cowley pool offers
shabana chandlay | Temple cowley pool and gym has been around for a long time it is part of the history of oxford and should not be closed down!

Angela Watson | I definitely prefer to keep the changing rooms as they are. I hate the arrangement at Ferry Pool. Temple Cowley is great and just needs essential repairs.
Kay Horseman | My family like Temple Cowley as it is. Only essential repairs should be done.
Laura Collins | I use Temple Cowley Pooles 3 times a week - it's friendly, convenient and a decent size. If this facility was lost to me, I don't think I'd use another one in Oxford - Barton, Blackbird Lees and Marston Ferry being too far away, inconvenient and not part of my local community. And as for the idea of cubicle changing - I've seen it in Newbury and it doesn't work, it's isolating and cramped. Please leave the single sex changing areas alone!!!!

keith barrett |
Maureen McCubbin | The pool has been open for as long as I can remember. We need more facilities in the area not less. If you want the pool to make more money, I suggest a creche. My children use the pool but I go to the another gym only because it has a creche.
Paul Heard | Keep it as it is! We are having an influx of people moving into the area (old school site) and there are two Brookes halls of residence within 5 mins walk of the pool. To move the pool would be a great loss to the community!!!
Elwira Lubos | Please keep the pool open. I have been going there for only 4 months, and since I have used it regularily. I think pool and leisure facilities are realy needed in that area. The pool is heaving with people in the afternoons, and weekends; many of them young people who would probably have no other alternatives for spending their time in a structured and positive way. I think changing facilities are just fine. Has this idea been given a public consultation? I think it should!
| 36 | Dan Paskins | No plans for closing Temple Cowley Pool have been suggested to councillors (who are the ones who would make this sort of decision). I would totally oppose any proposal to close Temple Cowley Pool - we need improved leisure facilities in the Cowley area.
Dan Paskins
City councillor, Lye Valley ward |
hannah parathian | Please don't close the pool - I use it nearly everyday and can cycle there easily. If I have to travel further I will have to use the car which I try to avoid as much as possible.
Mary Chong | This area is a prime location for the pool. People can swim, enjoy a pubmeal afterwards, visit the library, see the doctor, have a walk at Florence Park and shop at the nearby outlets all in a day. Why move it to somewhere isolated, where there's less incentive to go ?
Anonymous | Please don't close down the pool & facilities as its used by many locals.
Nicola Paull |
Mark Heaver | We have two children and my wife does not drive. The Council have the obligation to provide these services to the community, how could a rebuild in another area be a viable option?
Anonymous |
| 43 | Jenny Troyano | Why provide my children with free swimming if you are going to close our local pool? My sons have throughly enjoyed attending the holiday swimming programme and in particular the snorkelling course.
As a family we have enjoyed coming to Temple Cowley, using the learner pool, main pool and the gym. It is a real shame that there is no creche provision as there are plenty of us mums who would love to use the gym during the daytime! |
Miss L E Cummings | Closing Temple Cowley Pool would be an absolute disaster for me
Claire Moore |
Heather Richardson | Why is a council who is so keen to "address the lack of facilities for young people" in Temple Cowley by creating a skate park, also so keen to take away a facility that is used by many of all ages? Furthermore, if more land in this area is sold off for housing development what are this influx of people supposed to do nearby - take up skateboarding!!!
David Jackson | The council should ensure that the Cowley Pool stays open so that adults (e.g. over 18s) can have something to do. The plans for the the new facilities in the Cowley Marsh park cater for up to 18, what about the rest of us!
Clare Woodcock | Isn't the Council supposed to be encouraging us to take more exercise? Doesn't it want fewer of us to use our cars? If Temple Cowley Pools close, people will either stop swimming altogether or drive to other pools. And if the land is to be sold, what happens to Temple Cowley Library next door? East Oxford has few enough facilities as it is. The vast majority of us don't want and don't need a fifty metre Olympic size pool which we have to drive or get the bus to. We want to be able to walk to our local pool to do a bit of swimming. Keep this vital community facility open!
barbara van seters | personally I have nothing against a village style cubicles, as long as the pool stays. The place where it is , the history it has, the libary beside it, it's perfect.
Caroline Warman | Please don't close this lovely pool facilities I and my family enjoy very much
