Save SDMCs - De-politicize

To
The Chief Minister of Karnataka,

We the signatories to this appeal, request you to withdraw the circular dated 7 August 2004, which authorizes M.L.As to elect parent representatives to SDMCs.

A recent study conducted by the Policy Planning Unit, Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with the Centre for Child and Law, National Law School of India University, and civil society process, have clearly shown that 90% of the SDMCs constituted are doing extremely well in all aspects of education. Also, the parents elected from amongst the parents of the school going children ensured that the Committee functioned effectively.

We believe that the democratic process of electing SDMC representatives from amongst the parents of school going children, needs to be reinstated in order to empower the community to decide what is best for themselves. This is the only way to continue making strides towards improving the quality of education, and to making schools accessible and beneficial to all children.
