Glasgow City Council plan to close 6 Primary and 3 Nursery schools in the West End of Glasgow.
Dowanhill Primary, Hillhead Primary, Kelvinhaugh Primary, Willowbank Primary, Dowanhill Nursery and Willows Nursery will merge into one Super-Sized school of 758 children on a gap site on Gibson Street.
Notre Dame Primary, St Peter's Primary and Anderson Street Nursery will merge into one school of 491 children on the site of the existing St Peter's or Dowanhill.
The plans will:
• Lead to increased class sizes of at least 32 children per class
• Involve children travelling long, hazardous routes to school
• Create a Super-Sized school on an inadequate site with documented drainage problems and a private house in the middle of the school grounds.
• Increase traffic congestion and pollution on an already busy thoroughfare
To support our campaign for local, accessible schools with lower class sizes please add your details to the petition.
The petition will be sent to Glasgow City Council to ask them to withdraw their proposals and urge them to consider alternatives. |
