SAVE the National Service for comp. chem. software

The petition

We, the undersigned, deplore the decision to terminate the UK National Service for Computational Chemistry Software (NSCCS), and have serious concerns that recent policy changes in the funding provided by research councils are in danger of damaging the UK’s contribution to world research and the ability to advance research knowledge for the benefit of the research community/industry and UK plc.

We call on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to
(1) Revisit the short-sighted decision to terminate this vital service (used by over 100 research groups in the UK to do internationally recognised scientific research) by allowing the proposal to go before the next Chemistry panel as a strategically important proposal.
(2) To reconsider the decision to treat renewal applications of National Services in responsive mode with no direction from EPSRC with regards to their strategic importance.
