| 875 | Katie Bender | I am amazed that there is any controversy about the science inherent in the experience of music. I know there is fear that any program offered at a University will " pay for itself". In my meager observation and participation and study of the field of music therapy, the very existence of the program at a University stimulates and fosters innovation, self-expression, community, socialization, networking, business skills, academia and completes the learning "realm". To be a University that supports this new adventurous and scientifically oriented field of music therapy is truly a courageous thing - Thank you for offering the program. |
| 876 | Kajonyod Mutrais | THIS IS A TERRIBLE MISTAKE! Chapman was the cornerstone of music therapy in southern california and the program alone has provided several talented and rich individuals who are shaping the lives of thousands and thousands of people all over the country. The decision to delete the program is not only absurd, but you are also denying the community a much needed resource for happiness and well being. I am deeply saddened. |

| 878 | Annette Kearl, MA, RMT-BC | To Whom It May Concern: I am a music therapy professional of 18 years. I obtained my masters at UOP in psychology with an emphasis in psychophysiology. With my credentials in neuro and biofeedback, I have measured the physiological responses to music amd sound with the intent to validate the relationship between science, medicine and music. With my past experience as Clinical Instructor at Utah State University in the Music Therapy Department, the requirements of music therapy students, with cross disciplinary studies cross-disciplinary is exemplary.
It would be a shame indeed if Chapman were to discontinue the music therapy program. |

| 881 | Janna Jennison-Obenshain | I am a certified music therapist and work with children and adults with developmental disabilities. I have personally observed how much good music therapy does in people's lives, and how much it helps people. Please don't cut the program at Chapman University; more opportunities are growing every day for music therapists and we need more in the field! |

| 883 | Kim S. Tenney MT-BC, NMT | In my opinion, the music therapy program should continue as currently outlined. It is an asset to the music programs in general. Music Therapy students are dedicated to musicality as well as therapy. Please consider keeping the program. |

| 887 | Bonnie Teder | Completed music therapy accreditation at Chapman University in 2005 and have been in private practice in Orange County, CA since passing the National Board Certification test in that same year. My practice has been an approved site for 6 fieldwork students and one intern for Chapman music therapy students during those years. . Their influence on my clients has been remarkable and they represent Chapman music program in such positive ways.
Music therapists not only must be musically proficienct but understand the relationship of music to human development, wellness, and achievement. In a society where there is a growing demand for music therapy services (as music education positions decline) I can't understand why you would cut such a unique program that bridges the "gap" between music and the sciences at this critical time.
Just heard a quote from Yo-Yo Ma on NPR...discussing why he pursued his craft so arduously. To paraphrase: "All this time I thought it was about the music, but found it was really about t people" . I hope Chapman will reconsider phasing out this program that meets a proven demand, is excellent training musically for students, and prepares them to pursue a career after graduation or to enter a Master's program. |
