ALREADY RECEIVED OVER 230 SIGNATURES TO PAPER-BASED PETITION IN 5 DAYS!!
We have received disappointing news from UfI (University for Industry) who operate Learndirect. They have decided to announce that our bid to tender for contract for the next two years has been rejected. The feedback received from UfI suggests that the reason is purely financial as a result of a reduction in central funds. It appears then they prefer to give the benefit of delivery to the larger training provider.
The impact of this decision is that Best Training will cease to offer the high quality and opportunity of learning it has been able to give in the past and will have no other option but to close. It is currently lodging an appeal and we would like to count on your support for Best Training to remain open. The course of action is to raise this petition and gather as many signatures as possible; from family members, friends and neighbours and to display learner power to UfI who have always claimed, and quite rightly, that learner interests are first and foremost. Other courses of action would be to write letters to UfI, Regional Office, London; the local newspapers; to Councillors and MP’s.
Best Training has operated successfully as a Learndirect Centre in South Croydon for the past four years, and further expanded to form Stanfords Link Centre in Norbury and an outreach centre at the Shrublands Estate. During this period it has enrolled learners from a wide and varied section of these local communities. It attracts the ‘hard to reach’ learner by undertaking outreach and work-based learning. Some of the communities are located in regeneration areas where previously there had been no training provision. Some 92% of the client group enrolled are priority learners; whilst learner satisfaction is performing at over 90%.
Best Training continues to deliver a quality service from all its Centres. Most noticeably the volumes of Skills for Life tests have doubled over the past nine months. It achieved a Customer First business quality mark in November 2004 and more recently the Matrix standard. Studies have shown that these areas would continue to flourish with the presence of a local Learndirect centre as provided by Best Training.
Skills for Life test passes perform at 80% and ECDL passes at 98%. ECDL audit in 2005 gave it a top grade. There have been 137 Skills for Life test passes during the past eighteen months. Many learners have shown progression from the time they sat their Initial Assessment through Entry Level onwards to National Level 1 SfL Test and upwards towards Level 2. Further successes can be accredited to the large number of learners progressing onto employment or voluntary work.
Signatories are required rapidly it will be interesting to see what level of response we can gather in such a short time, this is the Challenge! |
