Professor Labonte was recently asked to leave her post as professor by the Sociology Department. This request came into response to an off-handed comment that she made during her "Sociology of Complex Organizations" class and because some students brought alcohol to class as part of a presentation. Although we do not condone these actions, we all continue to support Professor Labonte because she is an amazing teacher and a genuinely kind individual. Although some people might interpret some of Professor Labonte's comments as racist or stereotypical, those who have been in one of her classes realize that these comments are not made with malicious intent, but rather to provoke discussion and thought of different sociological principles. It would be an absolute shame to lose Dr. Labonte from Northwestern. If you have ever had her class or you just want to support free speech and academic thought, then please sign this petition in support of Dr. Labonte!!! |
