Echo Beach shouldn't be judged as a successful or failing soap - anyway it's too soon as soaps often take time to warm up as the audience needs to develop a relationship with the characters - it should be judged on it's juxtaposition with Moving Wallpaper.
We found the writing brilliant and watched Echo Beach to catch the links between the two. Suzy May's character was especially cleverly interwoven into the plot.
Perhaps there is more scope for the characters in Echo Beach to make brief appearances in Wallpaper e.g in the last episode the 3 main stars were directly involved in the story line. There could then be storylines involving the personal lives of the Echo Beach cast, as with Suzy's character, not dominating the writing/editorial emphasis of M.W. but creating more intrigue and complexity.
I thought I'd find the concept hard to follow and confusing when the series started but very quickly it became clear what the distinctions were and how they fit together. Now we've got the hang of it and know the characters it wouldn't be a problem for the audience if the two programmes/characters were interwoven even more.
Please retain both series - they are set to become a cult! |
