Williams familyI don't live in the village but have high regard for the Scouting fraternity. It's important to invest in the youth of today. We have huge problems with youths of both sexes who cry they have nothing to do, then Staffordshire want to lose a facility. It's madness. Invest in Scouting, Youth Service and anything else to engage the young people, not remove the facility. GOOD LUCK WITH THE FIGHT !

Pat WilsonWhat a pity in todays climate of the young running riot on the streets with guns and knives that the council sees fit to shut down the means of a group of youngsters actually meeting to do good work!! I sincerely hope the council will re-consider this decision.
Marion Salter
Vaughan EvansI really think this is an important cause. In the current climate of increasing youth crime, the closure of such facilities is frankly unbelievable. Local children get a lot of benefit from the Brownies, which helps them make friends in the neighbourhood and enhance the local community spirit.
Andrea GrewAsset stripping has a finite life, and with regards to asset's it is not just land that the Council are selling, but every asset that each and every child that goes through that scout hut door brings to our Community. The Council should realise that, every child is better for having being through this great institution and all that will be lost following short sighted and narrow minded peoples decisions who really ought to know better. Condolences and sentiments are free flowing from them but that wont make up for everything that the youth of our village will lose. I hope that in 10 years time when there are kids roaming our streets, vanadlism and crime figures go up they will hang their heads in shame because they will only have themselves to blame for the chaos.
Kirsty MorganThis is an important part of the community, engaging young people and helping them to become productive members of society, rather than the sort of children we see in the media - involved with crime and drugs, as they feel they have no other choices. I am sure the council do not wish to have to resort to schemes like having to try curfews (as we have seen recently in other areas) to control children in Brewood, by taking away something valuable that has involved so many over generations, and is a big part of the local community.

Bill GallanThe scouts should be given help by the county council as promised, or at least the chance to lease or buy the land the hut sits on. The Council has social responsibilities not just a need to make profit.
Tracey StanyerIts a disgrace. We are constantly being reminded that the country is in recession so why allow the building of more houses that people cannot afford to buy?
Jill Spare
Vicky SullivanPlease reconsider - without these places to go we are condemning our children to a life trapped in doors watching television or playing with playstations.

IreneHallWhile we have MP's asking for more from this government to give the youth of the country groups like this, why? are our own council giving up on our youth in this village,by selling off land which hosts not only scouts and guide groups but also a youth club. This money will go to build more buildings which will only be used for a short while then lie empty.

AnonymousSave Our Scouts!!
Liz SingletonMy own 3 daughters went through Rainbows, Brownies and Guides here in Brewood and had a lot of fun, whilst learning new skills and developing confidence. It would be a great shame if these opportunities were not available to future generations of local children.
Rob DaviesGive Brewood youth a future and save the land our building is on from the corperate claws of south staffs council.
Kate Juppclosing the Brewood huts is a discrace and i think that whoever wishes to do this will be ruining the lives of many of the young people in Brewood and the surrounding areas. This is the wrong choice to make and there are hundreds of people behind the savure of the huts me being one of them.
John AcherI am in complete agreemetnt
AnonymousI think this is appalling and it shoudn't be happening because instead of going to scout mettingswhat else are young people going to do in thier spare time? Probably cause trouble around the village, hang around the phone box or not know what todo with there spare time.Millie Wiley age 10
Nick WileyHypocrisy versus Democracy: 1) Actions speak louder than words - Labour say they want to help disaffected youth and then take away a brilliant youth service. 2) Money rules - forget about any other issues. 3)The law is an ass - surely the intention when building the huts was for them to carry on as long as there were volunteer scouts to run them 4)Power corrupts - after an election, take no notice of local issues, particularly in an area that didn't vote for you in the first place. Ensure that the sale proceeds are used in an area that has or could support you in the future. 5) Break promises - make an offer to keep people happy, then withdraw it. What happened to the offer of one sixth of the proceeds being used to re-locate? 6). Ignore publicity. It's all forgotten next week.
D HipkissSelling off the family silver to pay debts incurred through mis management elsewhere perhaps. Rather like Gordon Brown selling off our gold reserves and taxing pension funds. Where has that got us ? This cannot be allowed to happen. Would suggest you remember who your paymasters really are and listen to them rather than dismissing them. Out of that ivory tower Councillor please.

Stewart Wilson-BettHow can the Youth Services Committee withdraw a facility that helps young people? Surely. the Youth Disservices Committee would be a better title.

Jim CooperThe council should not be surprised if they feel they have lost the respect of the public along with other Politiicians when they make decisions and manage their budget in this way. We are fortunate to live in a beautifull Country where a sense of fair play still prevails and we care about other people. The effect of letting things slip and feeling powerless is that it gradually degrades all the things that make Britain Great. The Council Should be mindfull of the proverb "every journey begins with a single step" and the councils seem to be taking us in the wrong direction.

Ben CooperAs a scout myself, I belive it is crucial to get the whole village to fight the councils efforts to close the huts. The community needs this center to get kids off the street and give them something to do that will be benificial to their growth. Save our scout hut!

Jenny MasonThe scouting group in Brewood has been part of many peoples lives for many years. Lifelong friendships have been formed through the group bringing a greater sense of community and respect. I believe the central location of the headquarters plays a significant part in the organisation's success with youngsters being able to get there conveniently and safely. This central location also provides a feeling of "belonging" in the village which may explain why even non-scouting people are outraged by the prospect of losing the facility.
Helen SkidmoreFacilities for the young in their own community are important anywhere, to remove an existing well functioning facility is short sighted. The buildings also fit on that land - it's close to the park, it has parking, and they are part of the character of the village. What is the point of more and more houses without the facilities to support the people who live in them.

Steve O'BrienYou may be able to be a dozen houses or more on this site but you can only do that once. What Brewood Scouts has done is build the character of thousands of young peole over a hundred years and may that long continue.
