The recent widespread media reporting on the sexual scandal at Taipei American School (TAS) involving小琳 (pseudonym for Daisy Yang) and Ben have been radically misrepresented. Like many of you, feel hurt against the slander and negative media frenzy portrayed against our friend Ben Chu and his family in regards to their privacy, and to TAS as a wonderful educational institution. In this petition we hope to shed a different (hopefully positive) light for the media in regards to the moral standard and ethic conducts of Ben Chu, as well as TAS being a just education system for their students. In regard to the incident, the details are private and personal, but most importantly we all make mistakes. What horrors us is how society has latched on this incident and pinpointed one man as the perpetrator, when he is also a victim. Furthermore, the implication that TAS is an inadequate institution has no relation to this incident whatsoever. Ms. Yang, in her search for a sense of justice, has made false accusations that have pinpointed not only the Chu family but also the TAS administration, who has played no role in the event whatsoever. Any high school, regardless of whether or not it is public, private, international, or local, has sexual encounters between its students. It is unfair to simply single out TAS. In an effort to help clear Ben Chu's name, we think it is also important to help solidify TAS's reputation as great education institution and help the public understand a different side of the problem. So please, if you're friends with Ben Chu, or you just have some sense of school pride, stop the slander, sign the petition and make a difference. We will send this to the media and influential political leaders in both Taiwan and the US until all is cleared. Feel free to leave comments as you sign your name. Thank you. |

We are either alumni of TAS who attend school or reside in the US or friends of Ben Chu. Angered by this incident we'd like to make some difference by sending this petition to all who feel the same sentiment and to stop the excessive slander against both TAS and Ben. |
