By doing away with Autopatcher is Microsoft shooting itself in the foot.
I dont really want to have to download from windows update for all the computer i set up each week now do I (7 computers)?
Plus my way saves on bandwidth as well. |

The reason I prefer to do this is to avoid having to link a vulnerable machine to the Internet before patching. My OSes then get activated and further updates are obtained directly from Microsoft. Shutting down Autopatcher makes users more vulnerable to attacks on machines with freshly installed OSes, even if they have Service Packs on those fresh installs. |

| 293 | Bruno Brottes | I think Autopatcher is the greatest thing next to hit my Windows Support Tools Folder...I can install Windows on a client computer and install ALL updates upto the lastest Autopatcher release and I know I can connect to the internet in relative safety to get the remainder of the updates...this does nothing but help Microsoft's Product portfolio, and they should really be supporting it...PERIOD. |

| 295 | Krogoth | Microsoft, WTH are they smoking? They are throwing away a huge opportunity by adopting AutoPatcher! They could easily integrate AutoPatcher as "Windows Update Offline" and give it a WGA checker.
If Microsoft seriously thinks this action will force companies to adopt Vista. By making it too expensive to maintain XP. They are dead wrong. They are giving IT companies even more reasons to jump to Linux = total loss of business and PROFIT. |
