| 198 | Todd Knight | I've been using AutoPatcher for a few years, both for my LEGITIMATE XP/MCE machines, and to help quickly reformat/reinstall/update friend's machines, and especially those who are using dialup.
Since MicroSoft seems to be refusing to release an XP SP3, in favor of Vista (ie: "Windows ME v2.0"), and now they've killed the only non-multiple-reboot-reconnect-reupdate method of getting a freshly installed system prepared for (reasonably) safe internet connections in order to hit Windows Update for any "last few days" patches, they are deliberately making the XP community unsafe...which strangely furthers their goal of getting everyone to ditch XP in favor of "Windows ME v2.0." (aka: "Vista")
If there is no quick method for a legitimate user to update their system to be more secure BEFORE connecting to the net to download MORE patches (which are continually required, and in greater numbers each and every month) then perhaps it's true that MicroSoft simply doesn't NEED customers, and it's time that we took a more serious look into Ubuntu, Linspire (Lindows, before an MS multinational lawsuit capmpaign--I now have "multiple framed panes of glass in vinyl and/or wooden and/or aluminum caseworks" in my house...for fear ot being sued...)
It took almost 20 years to get this ol' Amiga user to seriously consider an "MS-based" PC...and it just took a single night to get me to download "FreeSpire" and "Ubuntu" for testing, beginning next week...can you say "Hint?" I knew that you could. ;) |
