The petition
This petition was created by Louisa Winter and Melissa Misak, parents of CTK Preschool students, in response to Julie Reed’s resignation and preschool meetings with Pastor Saurman. The topics of the meetings were: the hiring of a new Director of the preschool and resignation letters of the current teachers.
Pastor Saurman of CTK Preschool remained silent for eight weeks after Julie Reed’s resignation. Parents were kept in the dark and our opinions were not requested. Only after parent solicitation and initiative from Susan Freling, acting as temporary Director, was a meeting scheduled by her.
At the meeting on 4-17-07, Llise Miller and Susan Freling were in attendance. It was regrettable that the rest of the board were unable to attend. In addition, Pastor Saurman, the head of the Church Council and Preschool Advisory Board (who should have been heading the meeting), not only arrived 30 minutes late, but he was inappropriately dressed in dirty gardening clothes.
After being asked numerous times about existing teachers’ plans to return for the 2007-2008 school year, Pastor Saurman continued to evade the question. Pastor Saurman’s attitude was nonchalant and evasive and denied that there was any cause for concern. This was very disappointing and disturbing as it is our understanding that 80% of the staff have or will resign.
On 4-18-07, at Pastors Coffee morning, we personally asked Pastor Saurman, if he knew anything about teachers resigning or their plans not to return to CTK Preschool. Pastor Saurman informed us that he “had not seen or heard of any resignation letters”. However, we know for a fact that two teachers had already submitted their letters of resignation to Susan Freling earlier this week.
When once again asked about these letters in front of Susan Freling and five other CTK Preschool mothers, Pastor Saurman’s response was “I don't see why it's necessary”. Unfortunately he ran off to Chapel, once again not answering the question when in fact he has the knowledge.
Due to Pastor Saurman’s lack of professionalism and integrity concerning the staffing situation at the preschool we as parents have lost confidence in his ability to be a role model and guide our children at CTK Preschool.
It has come to our attention, the Church is currently waiting for a ruling from the Bishop's Panel to have the Pastor removed from his post.
This petition formally requests the removal of Pastor Saurman and hopefully will expedite matters in finding a capable replacement and leader as soon as possible.
I believe we the parents can make the difference of saving this jewel of a school.
