There are more than 40 Masajids and Mussallahs in Greater Atlanta area. It appears that our major Masajids follow Saudi Arabia to start and finish Islamic months. Smaller Masajids either follow the bigger Masajids or follow National organizations like ISNA or ICNA.
Muslims of Atlanta have family members and friends in other parts of the country. It is common to see that one family member is fasting elsewhere in the country when another is celebrating EID. Not only that, this has actually happened within Atlanta also, depending the Masjid one belongs to.
We do respect our major Masajids' reasoning behind their decision to follow Saudi Arabia. However, organizations like ISNA and ICNA (70%+ Masajids in North America follow these two organizations) also have religious reasonings behind their method of operation.
This petition does not object on any formula used by any Masjid to sight the moon. However, we the petitioners of this document request Masajids in Atlanta to follow the majority of Muslims in North America. We are hopeful that decision makers in major Masajids will give consideration to this request.
May Allah bless us all, specially those who will make an effort to bring unity and harmony among Muslims. Ameen. |
