We are doctors and nurses working in the City of Toronto.
The high air pollution counts in the City of Toronto, arising from automobile exhaust, can be lowered by encouraging more persons to use bicycles. Yet, without greater safety for cyclists, through segregated bike lanes, many avoid using their bikes. We are also witness to avoidable injuries to cyclists who collide with motor vehicles.
We demand that safe bicycle lanes be placed across the city. These lanes should separate cyclists from both vehicles as well as pedestrians.
Toronto is a progressive city, yet, it has not taken the necessary steps to bring bicycles to the forefront of safe and pollution-free transportation. |
