| 1401 | Bill Hardee | My father was one of the willing American volunteers that risked life & family to defend the British against the German assault. He was stationed at Rougham Field, and I remember many conversations of his stress at attempting his next mission aver German targets, and his desire to return home to his family. He was the recipient of 4
Oak Leaf Clusters for his sacrifice against the Reich in defense of Britain in the War.
I think it would be a small concession to leave the airfield intact to honor the brave Brits & Americans, that sacrificed their futures in defense of the concept of Liberty. I guess it would be too much to expect that the current crop of Social Muslim Liberals would want to pay respect to those that had the vision of Freedom & Liberty for others.
The choice is yours, and I truly don't think you have a clue what your choice reflects.
God bless America, and the civilized world.

| 1403 | s.sutherland | The War Memorial site, and the recreational facility (which attracts visitors from the entire South East of England, at least) should not be sacrificied, or impaired, to allow one private company to increase it's profits |
| 1404 | Michael Godfrey | I feel that the proposed relief road through the old airfield should be re-routed,as proposed by the rougham tower association. This will let the airfield stay as a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices made by the young men who flew from here |
| 1405 | Keith Boxall | More & more open spaces are being lost to roads, when are we going to wake up to the fact that we don't have to Tarmac every where. |
| 1406 | Les Reed | |
| 1407 | Richard Keeble | to much of our WW2 history has already been destroyed, this road should not be allowed to go ahead, no thought for people like you who work so hard to preserve our historical airfields, |

| 1411 | Anonymous | Rougham Airfield is in effect an historical site.
please realise that to build a road through it
would be an action to regret in later years. |
| 1412 | Jeanette Southgate | Surely there must be other routes available if a road has to be built?? It seems such a shame that we are losing our historical sites to roads and development. It shouldn't be allowed! We should be preserving our history for future generations... |
| 1413 | Walter William Crudgington | |
| 1414 | Mr R.J.Agambar | I think that it will be irresponsible to desicrate this
historic site. Also Bury St Edmunds is poorly served
by venues such as Rougham. No doubt in the furure houses will be built here. |
| 1415 | Bill Head | The air field is too important to the history of the
B-17 during WWII to allow a road so near the control
tower. Please consider an alternate site. |
| 1416 | Bill & Jacqui Yates | We wish you well with your petition. We have been to quite a lot of your events in the past when we lived in suffolk. We feel very strongly that these Heritage sites should not be lost as they form a big part of the Nation's history. Many people gave their lives in the defence of the country which must not be forgotten |
| 1417 | Mark Evans | Once again we see the petty bureaucrats stamp over men in uniform as they forget how much is owed to them all. Be it today with our own servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan or our American allies of World War Two. We also see yet again, how public officials in their arrogance feel that they can trample over the wishes of ordinary people, even though they are paid by us. |
| 1418 | Alan Powell | I object to the construction of this road as it will adversely affect the dignity and tranquillity of the site of the recently dedicated Memorial to the American Servicemen who were based at Rougham Airfield in the second World War. These men deserve to be cherished in our memories given the ultimate sacrifice that they made for us and the free world. |

| 1426 | glenn | things should be left in there natural state and not
destroyed as these are part of our heritage.
the councils have to much power and they should be taken down a peg or two. |
| 1427 | Jeremy Noble | The completeness of the airfield site and particularly the sanctity of the memorial and historic buildings, should not be disturbed. The road can be re-routed but history would be lost forever |
| 1428 | Anonymous | The proposal as apparently approved is quite the most thoughtless with little consideration for the amenity of the airfield and its users. It is particularly sad that the this thoughtlessness so affects the tranquility of the Memorial to so many who gave their lives for the people of this country. |
| 1429 | Ray Smith | Why do we need such a road when they can upgrade the Thurston Road and the Rougham road that runs between it and the A14.
The new roundabout behind J Banks should have had a link road to the new under pass ( A14) to Rougham. |
| 1430 | TONY GIFFORD | |
| 1431 | Paul Haines | If this road goes ahead it will be a joke. Stedmundsbury council / the highways agency should look at the importance of this historical site and also the impact having a beautiful open grassland used for wonderful events has on the local population. Driving an extra mile or two to save this piece of history should never be in question. Do the right thing and keep the airfield as it is now. |
| 1432 | julien ellis | It's a no-brainer - which probably means it'll go ahead - so much for democracy |
| 1433 | Anonymous | There loss of this facility would sad. There are no other equivalent venues in the area. |
| 1434 | David Dix | There doesn't seem to be a good reason to bisect the airfield with the current planned route. Surely a slightly longer route which preserves the historical value and beauty of the airfield is more beneficial for everybody? |
| 1435 | J D Vickers | This proposed road will severly compromise the amenity of this airfield for many members of the public. If th eroad must be built, then it should follow the route of the perimeter track. |

| 1439 | Anonymous | It is ridiculous to destroy such a useful amenity for Bury St Edmunds as the airfield, when the route which comes out at General Castle Way gives more direct exits to the A14 and does not disturb the Control Tower and Memorial. |
| 1440 | J S Millar | will also adversely affect the dignity and tranquillity of the site of the recently dedicated Memorial to the American Servicemen who were based at Rougham Airfield in the second World War. - They fought and Died for your freedoms- |

| 1449 | Ansis Rozkalns | Just typical just one more thing lost to a road with out any thought put to the historic site or how it will be affected may be its a plan just to turn the airfield into a housing site. |
| 1450 | Dawn MacDonald | I don't think it would be respectful to all those that fought the war. It would be like putting a road through their gravestone!
This must be reconsidered, it should not be used as the cheaper option because other options may be harder to obtain.
Please re-think this! |
