The petition
We, free people of Ethiopia and all peace-loving citizens of this world appeal to the world community and leaders of all world nations and equally to international institutions to stop the war that is imposed to us by unjust and criminal dictator regime of Meles Zenawi. The people of Ethiopia have suffered from war for decades. Unfortunately, the cloud of war is looming over their heads again. Ethiopia’s dictator, Meles Zenawi, is a hypocritical, subtle and cruel criminal who’s pushing our people to war and is obviously lying to the whole world which, being paralyzed by fear of terrorism, is ready to accept any arguments, even if they are absolutely absurd, to support the falsie struggle against terrorists. Some in the media are falsely presenting the tension between Ethiopia and Somalia to be the result of differences in religion. They argue that Ethiopia is mainly Christian, whereas Somalia is Islam. However, Ethiopia is home to both Christians and Muslims. In fact, there are at least five times more Muslims in Ethiopia than in Somalia. Ethiopia was identified in the Koran by no less authority than the Prophet Mohamed himself as a safe place for followers of Islam to seek a safe shelter.
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Meles Zenawi against the wishes of his people is preparing for battle in Somalia. The Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) has been calling Jihad against Ethiopia. In fact, Even though some actions of ICU may be arguable, it still acts in accordance with the norms of the national law and Zenawi’s regime in Ethiopia has no relation to Somalia problems. The people of these countries have no reason to go to war against each other. Meles Zenawi and his group have been rejected by the people in the May 2005 Election. The visionary leaders of Ethiopia who won the election have been locked in jail for more than a year. Thus, the Meles regime has no moral authority to declare war in the name of Ethiopians. Moreover, it is obvious that by such exaggeration of threat from the part of ICU, Meles Zenawi wants to simply to distract world attention from his own figure and he does it on purpose because, otherwise, the criminal essence of his regime will be revealed and he will disgracefully loose all his dictator power in Ethiopia.
In fact, it is extremely cynical from the part of Meles Zenawi to blame a foreign organization operating in the foreign state in terrorist activities, while his own regime cannot be characterized otherwise but totalitarian terrorism which aims at the repression and exploitation of its people. We, free people, cannot obey to the terrorist, which Meles Zenawi actually is and soon he will become a war criminal if the international community and world leaders remain indifferent to our desperate position. In this respect, the world community should know that it is Meles Zenawi who gave orders for shooting of civilians protesting the stealing of the 2005 elections which official results are just a fraud. It is Meles Zenawi who sent all independent journalist of the country to jail.It is Zenawi who locked visionary leaders of Ethiopia in jail for more than a year. And it is his agents who organized the recent religious violence that took the lives of the 19 people in the South West of the country.
In such a situation he attempts to provoke a military Christian-Islamic conflict in Somalia. However, it is nothing but a weak and terrible attempt to prevent his regime, which has totally lost people support, from disaster. This is why first of all, we want to express our disagreement and condemnation of the policy of Meles Zenawi and his regime. Secondly we want all worlds leaders, including the US, Europe, Russia, China and others, to take measures to stop the crimes of the current dictatorial regime of Meles Zenawi in Somalia which is terrorist by nature and this will be the real struggle against terrorism but not what Meles Zenawi wants to persuade the whole world in. Those of us who now live in different parts of the world because we were forced to flee our country do not wish millions more to be subjected into a war and be uprooted from their country. We want our people to focus their energy to fight poverty and injustice in their country. Thus we appeal to all, to exert influence on Meles Zenawi to refrain from waging a war against Somalia and its people. We ask institution such as the African Union, Arab League, United Nations, and the European Union, to remind Meles Zenawi not to impose war on his people and that he would be held responsible for the lives to be lost to the war. We ask allies including China, Canada, Russia, United States of America, and United Kingdom to stop providing political and material support to the government of Ethiopia.
To prevent the greatest humanitarian disaster, i.e. the unjust war that Meles Zenawi wants to provoke, we appeal to the world community to establish a thorough control over the transportation system of Ethiopia in order to stop the sending weapon to the warring fractions. Furthermore, it is vitally important to impose travel ban on the politicians of Ethiopia to stop Meles Zenawi to force his people to war.Finally, we appeal to the world community to recognize the existence of the great danger of the provocation of unjust war, against the will of the Ethiopian people, who in actually totally disagree with the
criminal dictator regime of Meles Zenawi. Such a recognition and essential sanctions against the criminal regime of Ethiopia would be the right and lifesaving decision.
