| 5 | Maxine Waith | If it works well, why change it? Give our kids the start they have been denied for many years.
Whats the use of policy like Every Child Matters and good practice like Early Support if decisions like this are made with proper consultation with parents. |

Jo Yarnall | We are supporting this vital service to children who desperately need early intervention as this helps pave the way for a better future for them.
Emma Gilbert | Headstart Nursery is absolutely vital to faciliate the transition into mainstream schooling for children with learning disabilities. Closing a nursery that provides this progression pathway goes against every principle of the valuing people ethos and promotes social exclusion rather than inclusion.
Lisa Green | Miranda & Colin, I'm so glad you have set-up this petition as there are many families out there who are distressed about the closing of Headstart and no one in a position of authority has given any explanation. This cannot be allowed to happen and I hope that our local MPs Roger Gale and Steve Ladyman will soon add their support.

Andrew Boylett | Too many schools for children with special needs are being closed in this day and age. Mainstream schools do not have the facilities or time to teach special needs children.
Tim Green | Its a scandal that such a vital service for those with special needs is being taken away.
Anonymous | Please save the school..It is a very important facility for children who would not normally be able to cope in a mainstream school. It is also peace of mind for parents that their child is being taught and looked after by those who understand the extra requirements needed

helen boothby | There is not enough provision for intervention for children with learning difficulties. I work in a main stream school with attendance and behaviour problems but would struggle with learning needs aswell

adam foxall | i think the nursery provides a vital stepping stone into full time education. So therefore it would be catastrophe for it to close. I give my full support to this campaign to save the nursery.
Debbie Barker | Very concerned to hear about the loss of this vital resource, and now concerned about the supply of a suitable nursery for my daughter if and when we may need it in 2008

Tracy Reynolds | I strongly disagree with the decision of KCC closing the Headstart Nursery as we have a child who was going to have a place there in September 2007. Also my eldest son benefited from Headstart when he was younger and I believe that without the help and support of the Headstart Nursery he wouldn't be where he is today.

justine welch | The people who are responsible for the decision to close Headstart should be disgusted with themselves. At the very least, a formal consultation with parents/carers should have been held, not least for us to air our views but out of common decency!
SARAH PILGRIM | my son also goes to headstart and im horrified at them deciding to close it as he has come on so well since goin there
Julia Powell | Think again before closing such a vital resource.
Derek Bradley | My son was due to start at Headstart in the Autumn and we were informed of this desicion a couple of weeks ago. It is outrageous that this nursery should be closed to children like my son without any warning, discussion and worse without any other provision made. This will profoundly affect his development and opportunities, mainstream schools are simply unable to cope. Inclusion simply does work.
Catherine Maher | I am utterly disappointed and disheartened at the news that Head Start is no longer on the cards for my three year old son with Down Syndrome. We recently moved here and when I was told that my son could go to Headstart two sessions a week and have intense input including speech therapy and potty training, I was really pleased. In the mean time I have had such glowing reports from professionals and parents alike about Headstart as to raise my enthusiasm for what can be achieved. I was so looking forward to my son starting there and now feel that those hopes and expectations are dashed. It is going to be impossible for any main stream nursery, however good to replicate the input of a placement like Headstart. The evident lack of speech and language therapists is mitigated somewhat by such a specialist placement. How is this issue to be overcome for our children in this precious preschool year?
